Practice areas
  1. Consumer protection
    65%
I file suits for consumers who have been the victims of unlawful debt collection practices, consumer fraud, predatory lending, automobile fraud, wrongful repossessions, problematic mortgage foreclosures, incorrect credit reporting, and identity theft.

    23 years

  2. Class action
    25%
I represent consumers in class action litigation against debt collectors, mortgage lenders/servicers, credit reporting bureaus and furnishers of credit information, and other businesses committing unfair or deceptive practices. Often times, my individual client is not the only person to suffer the same wrong so a class action is the appropriate mechanism for relief. I have served as class counsel in actions certified in Illinois, New York, California, Michigan, Minnesota, and Washington.

  3. Debt collection

I assist consumers who are being contacted by debt collectors to know their rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and Illinois Collection Agency Act.

Amazing Attorney
Stacey Bardo helped me get rid of a collection on my credit report which was the result of my identity being stolen. I hired Stacy in 2022 and totally forgot about leaving a review, better late than never. My identity was stolen in 2020 and in 2021 the collection showed up on my credit report. The collection was for $21,000 for a rental that the thief had made in my name. I needed help in getting this collection removed from my credit file as it has hurt my score. Enter Stacy. She was very responsive on here and via email. I was able to discuss the case with her and after listening to the details she was able to come up with the game plan. It helped that I had good documentation i.e. police report, the report from the detective who followed up, etc. Stacy was able to get rid the fraudulent collection quickly and my credit score went back up. Her fees were very reasonable and worth it. My only regret is not reaching out to her sooner. Thank you Stacy for your help.

Excellent, Professional. Highly Recommend
Stacy helped me resolve an identity theft issue that had a negative impact on my credit and needed a lawsuit to resolve. Throughout the entire process, Stacy was knowledgable, professional, and action-oriented. Her insight on the legal process and financial and credit laws were indispensable in addressing the issue with the large number of parties involved. Stacy is trustworthy and a great communicator, two key characteristics that make an effective lawyer. In the end, the resolution was exactly what I had expected. Thanks to Stacy for delivering a fair and welcome result.

She's so helpful and knowledgable
I recently contacted Stacy while in a panic about a debt collection lawsuit. She called me back the same day and was incredibly kind, helpful, knowledgeable, and reassuring. I feel so much better after speaking with her, and it's a huge comfort knowing she's there if I need legal representation. I recommend her wholeheartedly.

Absolutely wonderful!
I am an Activity Director at a nursing home. During this Covid-19 pandemic, My checking account was frozen by some law office for a debt that was not mine and I had never knew anything about it. I called Ms. Bardo and she helped me deal with the Law office immediately, and was able to get an order the very next day and she was able to get my account unfrozen. With this pandemic, I have been so busy trying to keep residents happy, entertained, making sure the family members stay in contact. When this happened, Ms. Bardo was quick to help me so that I can get back to work without worry. THANKS from the bottom if my heart! I would reccomend her to anyone!

I highly recommend Stacy Bardo!!!
I hired Stacy in late 2017 and have continued to work with her in to 2018. I needed help to organize and make sense of my past due medical debts and other debts affecting my credit. I am a business owner and not knowing how to handle my past debts was holding me back. I carried a lot of shame and upset feelings over dealing all my debts. Stacy's kind, knowledgeable, and straight forward approach has totally empowered me to face my debts, and at the same time be fully informed about what my rights are as a consumer. Stacy will tell you the truth and fights for your rights! The two words that best describe Stacy and my experience with her are CONFIDENCE and REASSURANCE! Working with Stacy has been one of the best decisions to invest in myself in my life!

Gets the job done.
Not much else to say. She has proven to be very competent straightforward, and honest. Although I dearly hope I don't need to engage her services in the future, I won't hesitate if the need arises.

AMAZING ATTORNEY
I was referred to Stacy to assist me with a debt collection suit that stems from 11 yrs ago. I initially reached out to Stacy, not knowing much about her, and by the end of our 1st conversation I knew I was in the best hands possible. From the start, Stacy has exceeded every expectation I've had. She is brilliant, thorough and incredibly personable and has a way of always helping me stay positive and confident. Stacy jumped in to my case head first, asking nothing from me other than my trust in her....how many attorneys can you say THAT about??? She continually gives 110% to me and my case and keeps me so incredibly well informed every step of the way. Stacy calls, texts and emails to make sure I am in the loop with where we are going and to provide all possible updates and outcomes. She has taken charge and represents herself in such a professional manner making me feel very well taken care of. Stacy has a keen eye and is detail oriented....she doesn't miss a thing! Professionally, I am beyond impressed with her- personally, I’ll say the same! She has a kind heart and a tender soul- I just feel blessed to have her on my side. I cant say enough about how my husband and I have been treated by her! She is a beautiful person inside and out and an AMAZING ATTORNEY!

A Great Outcome to a Bad Experience
Ms. Bardo was professional, proficient, dependable, and amazing to work with. She handled our case with such grace and class. When we first contacted her with our case she began to work on it immediately. It was a difficult case with a well known car dealership. The other side was clearly in the wrong but was holding out. She stayed in contact with us and kept us updated on the progress. She won us everything we had asked for. The time for the entire thing to be resolved was less then four months. I would not hesitant to recommend her to anyone looking for a great attorney.

Thank you !
I had an issue with my car dealership. They didn't want to return my down payment or car note that I paid through them and not the finance company. They tried to threaten me with repos and police and that's when I got into contact with Stacy. I thought there was absolutely no hope until I ran into her. She is one of the only lawyers that lead me to any direction. Stacy helped me get my down payment back from the dealership and some of my car note. It helped me out so much because now I am in a new car and dealing with a new dealership. No one will understand how stressful it is to worry about transportation when you work so far from where you live. Not only that but I have a son that I have to drop off at his grandma's every time I work. With no vehicle, nothing is possible. Thanks again and I highly recommend Stacy.

Compassionate and Caring
I was being sued by a third party debt collector and hired Stacy to represent me. I emailed her requesting a consultation and within 24 hours we were speaking on the phone about my situation. She was respectful, understanding and most importantly, was able to make me feel at ease when discussing a somewhat embarrassing situation. Throughout the entire process, Stacy made sure that I knew she was available any time I had a question. Most of our communication was over email and she was incredibly prompt, concise and provided easy to understand explanations of everything that was going on. She updated me every step of the way and was able to work out a solution that I was satisfied with. What's most impressive is Stacy's attention to detail. She was thorough in double checking all paperwork, making sure I received the best possible outcome. She even offered to review my credit report to make sure everything was on track. I can't recommend Stacy's services enough. She is down to earth, realistic and has a lot of experience in helping people deal with debt issues. You can put your faith in her knowing that she's fighting for you. Thanks Stacy!

The Fast and the Furious (Energetic)
The fast and the furious is well suited for Stacy Bardo. She quickly handled my legal matter without hesitation. Attorney Bardo presented the facts of my case in a furious manner which resulted in a favorable verdict. Stacy has the power of persuasion. I know this review might sound a little cheesy but I was truly surprised with how quickly my legal matter was resolved.

A client focused, Knowledgeable and Brilliant Attorney
I was in need of an Attorney to help me attempt to vacate a default judgment from Chase Bank, USA N.A due to the July 2015 CFPB-Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Consent Order that Chase agreed to making the judgment void. The judgment was stopping me from being able to obtain a mortgage to buy a home for my family. Considering that the judgment was past the 2 year limit usually allowed by Illinois law for this type of motion, and the case was from a Cook County court, I was told by numerous legal firms that my chances of success were very slim, and any attempt would likely not be successful. Due to this, I was not able to find a law firm to help me until I was referred to the Bardo Law firm. The Attorney Stacy Bardo took the time to listen to my situation, and proposed a brilliant legal strategy, and filed a Motion to Vacate the Judgment. Based on this strategy, and her determination, Ms. Bardo was successful with having the judgment vacated, allowing me to move forward with my home buying plans. I am grateful that I was able to have Ms. Bardo assist me, and that she had the legal experience, and knowledge to get the job done. I highly recommend the Bardo Law firm, and Attorney Stacy Bardo for any Consumer Protection, Class Action and robo-signing challenges that you face. When other lawyers say no, think Bardo!

Not helpful
I called seeking consultation on what I felt was a fraudulent case resulting in the loss of my car. I felt that Ms. Bardo was pretty dismissive when I was trying to explain the circumstances surrounding why my car was repossessed while my account was in good standing. The questions she asked led me to believe that she thought she was talking to someone wholikes having cars repossessed left and right just to skirt the law. I am not a con artist and I think Ms. Bardo confused me with the people she has helped in the past. I will not pay someone a retainer to gloss over paperwork that clearly shows the fault of the finance company, then tell me I have no case, which I know I do. It's one thing to tell me I have no case because of lack of evidence, but let's be honest, tell me you don't want to take the case because it a big car company and your fear is you won't win against them. At least I know that can talk to other attorneys about this problem. One thing I will agree with Ms. Bardo on that was made clear: my situation is complicated and the finance company is doing some reprehensible things to cover up their costly error. I will seek out a second opinion on this.

Response from Stacy Bardo November 5, 2016
I am truly sorry that you were not satisfied with our telephone call. It's my job to ensure that all prospective clients feel that their situations have been properly addressed and I strive to give accurate, timely, and helpful feedback. I apologize I fell short of that standard when you called. While the vast majority of my client consultations are provided free of charge and I file consumer cases on a contingent basis, there are a few cases where I request an initial consultation fee if there is a particularly complicated fact pattern, multiple years of correspondence, and accounting statements to review. I sincerely appreciate the trust that consumers place in me to assist them during difficult times and I take the decision to accept or reject a case very seriously.
