also known as Carol O'Connor Cadiz, Carol Cadiz
Hi, I am attorney Carol O’Connor Cadiz. I am a 1996 graduate of DePaul University College of Law in Chicago. Before that, I worked as a Spanish translator for attorneys before and while in law school. Since I worked with an agency, I was at a different law firm almost every day. Often, I was in court translating personal injury trials. The lawyers were always different. The process and the law fascinated me, and I knew that I wanted to be a part of it. One of the reasons that I became a lawyer is because I hated to see how most lawyers were treating the other people in the room. While so many seemed very good in terms of knowing the law, and taught me a lot, most had no "bedside manner". I wanted to do better. I understand that when people are faced with a new situation, especially where law and medicine are concerned, it can be very scary. In personal injury law, law and medicine often come together. You would be shocked if I were to tell you how I saw people being treated, even by their own lawyers. Sometimes, it was nothing short of sickening. I wanted to work with clients not just as their translator but in a way where I could relate to them in the way that I believed was needed. Only when someone is able to have a good working relationship with their lawyer can they begin to understand their case and become a true parter in the outcome.
I began my legal career practicing personal injury law, out of a small law firm in Skokie, Illinois. My boss was kind and did treat his clients with respect, but things were very "old school" and a bit disorganized. I moved out of the area and my career took me elsewhere. I soon moved back to the Chicago area and returned to the personal injury firm in order to sharpen my skills and learn from more experienced lawyers. In 2000, I opened my own law firm in downtown Chicago so that I could do things my own way and help the people that I wanted to work with.
A few years later, I took on a business partner and my law firm became A. Traub and Cadiz. By 2005, our partnership ended and I opened my own firm in Schaumburg, IL. I have been in business for myself ever since, and eventually moved the business to Itasca IL, serving DuPage County. In February 2023, I moved to my current office which is located in Elgin, Illinois. I am licensed in the Northern District of Illinois (Federal Court) and also in the State of Illinois, exclusively serving people in Illinois. While my office is located in Kane County, I also help people in Cook, DuPage, Lake and McHenry counties.
I decided long ago that I wanted to serve clients in a more personalized way- paying particular attention to the specific needs of the individual and getting to know each and every client well. This is why I refuse to become what I call a Personal Injury Mill - with many lawyers cranking out cases without really spending enough time getting to know the facts. Not all of them operate that way, of course, but I knew that I wanted to stay small. For this reason, I am very selective in who I am able to help and I do not take on more cases than I can handle.

Hi Mauricio, thank you so much for your very kind words. It was very nice to have worked with you. While I do not handle home closings anymore (I am back to my first passion, injury law), it was helping people like you which made me happy. I hope that you and your family are doing well.

I reached out to Carol to discuss the possibility of engaging her for a real estate transaction. She was incredibly responsive and helpful in detailing the process in Illinois. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone needing an attorney for a real estate closing in Illinois.

Carol was great at handling all our needs. I liked that she was quick to respond to any of my questions or concerns. I would definitely recommend her to my family and friends
"I highly endorse Carol. She is a consummate professional, a zealous advocate, involved in her community, and an excellent, highly-skilled attorney. I recommend her without hesitation!"
"Carol is an amazing lawyer who really cares for her clients. She is very skilled and getting the most money for her clients. As a native Spanish speaker she is able to converse directly with any client who feels comfortable with a Spanish speaking attorney"
"Carol is a true professional who cares about making sure that her clients are well served. She will go above and beyond in making sure that every client receives the best possible outcome on their case."
"Carol is a strong advocate for her clients. Because of this, she will fight hard for your case. I endorse her."
"Carol has written informative books about the law that her clients have found to be very helpful in selecting a lawyer. I work with Carol in a professional lawyers group, she is very knowledgeable about bankruptcy as well as her other practice areas and also brings a warm and caring personality to her work which is uncommon among lawyers."
"Carol was an opposing counsel on a divorce matter. She represented her client well, while also professionally working towards a favorable resolution of the matter. She was not overly or unnecessarily contentious, and she instead worked towards finalizing the case, which was in both parties’ interests."
"I endorse this lawyer. I recently completed a divorce case with Carol. I appreciated Carol's professionalism on this matter."
"I endorse this lawyer. I have known Carol for many years and not only dealt with her on our own case, but seen her in action on other cases. She is knowledgeable, thorough and an excellent advocate for her clients. Carol is bilingual and I would not hesitate in referring those that require a Spanish speaking attorney."
"If you are thinking about the tough road to divorce I highly recommend that you check out Carol and her information first. She is the author of a terrific book that will answer a lot of your questions before you go to any attorney for that initial consultation and meeting."
"Carol is an enthusiastic and hard working lawyer who is dedicated to her clients. If you are facing the prospect of a divorce in Illinois, she has written two valuable consumer guides on divorce that are "must reads" and available for free on her website."
"I have known Carol for almost ten years. She is a very ethical attorney who zealously represents her clients. I am happy to refer clients to her because I know that she will handle their case with care and skill."
"I enthusiastically endorse Carol. I've had an opportunity to observe her in a complicated, hotly contested litigation where i was involved in a related matter. She doggedly pursued the outcome for her client. What was most impressive was that she was very creative in her approach which led to an excellent result. Her work ethic and preparation certainly helped but it was her "thinking outside the box" that deserves high praise."
