Neal has advised me in a very lengthy and complex case on multiple occasions. He is patient and an excellent listener. On each occasion, he gave well thought out advice on a case that was outside of his geographical jurisdiction...but he still offered the same careful insight and strategic thinking... that you would want from your day to day attorney. I cannot express enough superlatives about Neal and his abilities. In less than a year, he was able to resolve a situation that had been building and hanging over my head for many years. I was referred to Neal by a family member who had engaged in his services for their divorce. From the start, Neal made sure I was comfortable with the process that is divorce by educating me at every step. I was particularly thankful for his focus on ensuring that my children were front and center.... His guidance was crucial in establishing a healthy post-divorce co-parenting plan. When I asked my husband for a divorce due to lifestyle choices and differences we agreed to draft a Marital Separation Agreement (MSA) in collaboration with one another and try to do the divorce without the services of an attorney. I initially visited Neal on a consultation and so that he could expl...ain Illinois Divorce Law . I explained my what I could only call "unusual circumstances" in detail and told Neal what I/we wanted to achieve. We had no minor children and owned a home together which we agreed he would remain in and either sell or refinance. Neither one of us wanted to gouge one another or make the other pay for the rest of their lives. What I didn't know however was that there was something that worked to my benefit and that was "Dissipation of Marital Assets" which Neal explained in great detail in full consideration of my desire to not rake him over the coals but rather to use this to my advantage to basically give me back the lifestyle which I was accustomed to. After doing a great deal of fact finding and homework I sat down with Neal to begin to draft a reasonable starting point for the asset portion of our MSA. I went into it not requesting alimony or maintenance and my ex agreed (at the first meeting) to everything I proposed. We were able in a time period of about 4 months to finalize the agreement, get a court date and finalize our divorce. In my opinion Neal is empathetic, honest and ethical to a fault. He completely honored my request for an amicable divorce and very clearly explained everything to me in great detail. My ex did not retain the services of an attorney and because I/we did a lot of the legwork ourselves and I paid my own attorney fees, we were able to complete our divorce for less than $3,500. One of the most significant things that Neal did for me while helping me draft the initial MSA was to help me retain all of my $400K plus retirement account. I was referred to Neal by a friend who was a former divorce client of his. I interviewed 4 attorneys (Neal included) and Neal was the ONLY one who went above and beyond in the initial 30 minute consultation which when we finished was an hour and 15 minutes. He took all of my relevant information at that time so that if and when I made the decision to hire him we didn't have to waste time (& $$) gathering all of the info. On some of my appointments he met me in jeans and a collared shirt, indicating that he was a person, with a family, above all else. On some of those meetings we played the hypothetical "what if" game so that I was able to weigh the potential benefits and consequences of a particular course of action in order to make a fully informed decision. I would very highly recommend Neal Simon and his staff who were all very easy to work with and very accommodating. You won't regret it for a minute.
