Attorney Hammett graduated from UW-Madison in 1986. He received his Juris Doctorate from Marquette University in 1989. Mr. Hammett is a member for the Winnebago County Bar Association and served as President in 1997-98. Mr. Hammett is licensed to practice in the State of Wisconsin and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
Widely regarded as one of the leading family law attorneys in his region, Mr. Hammett has achieved notable success counseling and guiding client through the divorce process assisting in reaching agreements and resolving their conflicts concerning custody, placement, support, spousal maintenance, the division of the marital estate, and other related matters. Approximately 80% of Mr. Hammett's practice consists of representing clients in divorce actions, paternity actions, adoptions, and termination of parental rights proceedings. The remaining 20% of his practice consists of mediating family law disputes to help parties come to terms in the most amicable and efficient manner possible. Would HIGHLY recommend Bill Hammett
Bill Hammett is incredibly good at what he does. He handled my divorce in 2021 with professionalism, good advice, patience, and understanding. He was quick to respond, always kept my best interests in mind, let me dictate how aggressive I wanted to handle things, and was very fair when it came to billing. THE BEST!!
I hired Bill Hammett for my divorce and would highly recommend him to anyone. His knowledge and experience are beyond commendable. The communication was excellent and always timely. I was never left wondering where things were at. I was overwhelmed with how complicated the process could get and he was outstanding in getting it done and making sure it was fair. He truly works in his client's best interest. The staff at the firm is also professional and great to work with. If I could give more than 5 Stars for this review I would.

Professionalism Exemplifies
Bill helped me navigate the very stressful time of getting a divorce. Started as a consultant and reviewed document I was given by my wife and told me not to agree to it. Consummate Professional
Bill embodied professionalism, compassion, and patience throughout my unnecessarily lengthy and contentious divorce and child custody proceeding. He was extremely tactful in the manner in which he dealt with my high-conflict ex-spouse through an oftentimes "challenging" opposing counsel. His knowledge of family law, familiarity with the involved professionals in the area, and ability to navigate all of the complexities which accompany a difficult case such as mine were solidified in the form of an outcome which was in the best interest of my children, as well as fair and equitable for me and my ex-spouse.
I would recommend Bill to anyone seeking an experienced, realistic, and ethical attorney for a divorce involving child custody issues, particularly with a high-conflict spouse. Mr. Hammett represented my mother in a divorce proceeding after 50+ years of marriage. He was always very professional and explained everything that was very easy to understand. His knowledge and passion for what he does, shows in his work. We knew what to expect when leaving his office and the time frame when things where going to happen. Definitely recommend, excellent!!
Bill and his staff were easy to work with during my divorce process. My initial call for the free consultation occurred quickly and was very helpful to me as I did not know what to expect when my ex hired an attorney (we were attempting to divorce via pro se initially.) Bill was great at explaining what I did not understand and answering my questions. He put my worries at ease. I felt he had my child's and my best interests in mind, even as far as what is worth fighting for in the divorce to take into account the billing time it would take to resolve and determine which items were worth pursuing or letting go in favor of pursing other changes or arguments. I highly recommend Bill for a divorce attorney! I would definitely retain Bill's services again, should the circumstances ever arise for any legal matter. Remember, you get what you pay for, cheaper doesn't mean better and Bill was a far better attorney than the cheaper attorney hired by my ex. The judge even complimented Bill on his cross-examining of my ex at my divorce hearing after court!

Divorce Help
Bill was very helpful and supportive throughout my divorce process. He was knowledgable throughout and I feel the information he gave me was prompt, timely considering the decisions that had to be made, and direction on what I believe was the best outcome for the situation. He made sure that the process kept moving though completion. While I know he had my interests in mind, he also had the end goal in mind, with suggestions of possible ways to address and settle things. He was kind, and professional. From the first phone call through the entire 18 month process Bill Hammett was professional, supportive and helpful. He helped make a miserable process the best it could be. Difficult Divorce
Bill was recommended to me by a trusted friend. I am grateful for that recommendation!! The circumstances surrounding my divorce were complex and involved working with a less than cooperative former spouse. Bill was outstanding to work with. The wheels of justice grind slowly however Bill was always well prepared and solution oriented. When I met with Bill at different times to discuss our options and look to find solutions he was thorough, compassionate, and professional. He knew the law and how to best represent me in my situation. I feel I was able to achieve a favorable outcome because of his approach and knowledge. Outstanding divorce attorney!
Before hiring an attorney, I thoroughly investigated all divorce lawyers within a 100-mile radius of Green Bay. My intention was to hire someone with expertise and experience specific to divorce law. To my surprise, I found someone in close proximity who has an outstanding reputation. Attorney William J Hammett with HBO law offices was selected to “Super Lawyers” from 2008-2015 as one of the top divorce and family law attorneys in the State of WI and, upon reading his clients’ reviews, I knew I wanted him to represent me. Bill’s vast knowledge of divorce law put me at ease almost immediately. Personally, I can attest to his honesty and integrity as a law professional. Many details of this process were initially quite overwhelming. Bill could sense my frustration and patiently answered ALL of my questions; my concerns and worries were quickly alleviated. What impressed me most was the step-by-step approach he used to convey the divorce process in terms I could understand. His actions and personality were highly professional both in and out of the courtroom. I have a great deal of respect for Attorney Hammett and am very satisfied with the outcome of my divorce. Great Lawyer and a Great Person
My situation is similar to Michael’s who posted a comment on Aug. 3rd. Bill handled my divorce and almost yearly I’ve been back in court for more child support. Bill does not break or bend the law, but he does support your case in your benefit. To this day my support has not increased due to Bill and his staff’s support. I can’t commend or provide a higher recommendation for Bill and his firm. They are all true professionals in every sense of the word and all are great “real” people. That makes a difference during the trying times you may be facing while needing a lawyer. Thanks again Bill and Ellen!

Best Outcome Possable
I am a current client of Attorney Bill Hammett. After being divorced for four and a half years, I was being taken back to court by my ex for child support before my child turned 18. When I needed to ask questions or had concerns, every phone call and email was answered in a timely manner. He listened to all of my concerns, I never felt like he did not care about my situation. He was always there when I needed him. I cannot say enough positive things about Attorney Bill Hammett. This type commitment is nice to have when a divorce process is difficult. Divorce
I am so glad I chose Bill as my attorney. He did everything in his power to make sure that I was taken care from the day I first sat down with him, until the divorce was final. Bill and all of his staff kept me well informed, and were always there to answer any of my questions.
