A Fantastic Lawyer
Nick represented me on a PPO case against my boyfriend's ex-wife. She tried everything to get the PPO terminated, but thankfully with Nick by my side, we won without question in court!! My girlfriend was facing the snowball effect of a Disorderly Person charge from her youth which had not been fully resolved as we had thought. The surprise of our lives came in the moment when she was spontaneously arrested on a bench warrant in Oakland County. The best decision we could have made in the aftermath was hiring Nick Calkins and the Covert Law Firm. Nick showed his competence for the law immediately as we strategized how to put this behind us. My girlfriend was facing serious jail time and had everything on the line. Nick was always timely in his responses to ensure we were up to speed on everything and was always compassionate and understanding of our situation. Incredibly intelligent and relentless lawyer. Will fight by your side as if he were family. I had no doubts working with him.
On my second DUI with no personal lawyer, I googled DUI lawyers. The first result was the Nichols law firm, respectfully so. I went ahead and made a phone call and never looked back. I then consulted with Nick and when we spoke, he quickly relinquished any doubts I had in our conversation. So I hired him to defend my case and it was the best decision I could have made. Nick worked to build a case for me through unrelenting hours. He never held back his opinion and supported me through my case and another one that followed a month later. He never gave up and helped me succeed in getting through my cases. Drunk driving is a harmful, selfish act that has consequences. However no amount of money is too much to have Nickolas represent you. I never second guessed my decision to hire him and neither will you if you are in the same situation.

Wonderful lawyer. Do not be swayed by his age or length of experience.
I retained Nick for an OWI-high bac charge this past August. As someone who has never even had a parking ticket before, this was my first time ever having to retain legal counsel. I was scared/worried, ignorant, etc. Nick was very professional, knowledgeable, tactical and sincere. Throughout the entire process Nick made sure I understood what was going on, and that I was comfortable. On the day of jury selection, I had a tough choice to make where I ended up taking a plea deal of OWVI. Beforehand, Nick sat down with me for over an hour (!), and we went through every scenario I was facing. I was very upset the entire time, but he was patient with me, and never once tried to sway my choice one direction or the other. Nick truly cared about my well- being even outside of the charges I was facing, and he will care about yours as well. He takes his job and his clients lives very seriously. Although I personally decided to take a plea for a number of reasons, I believe Nick would have done very well for me in trial. I do not plan to be in any kind of legal trouble again, but if I were, or someone I knew was, I would retain/ recommend him again.

Sharp and articulate....
I retained Nick when i was blindsided in a custody battle. Nick was very informative and very percise in his strategy and execution. He prepared my case very well. We won our first appeal. The other party objected and we were set for a de novo hearing however we won on technicality (other lawyers incompetence) which was ok with me because he put my son first and did not gamble although he could have easily won. Bottom line is he is a very smart and very committed. I know this will be one of many battles and i will plan on retaining him in the future. I would highly recommend him to anyone. You want a lawyer that's going to be prepared and it was very strategic with his game plan.

I hired Nick for my case regarding my son's father with custody, parenting time and child support. He surpassed my expectations as a lawyer and got me everything I wanted and then some. He was very accommodating to my schedule with meeting me outside of my work hours. I have had to hire Nick now twice, and would again if need be. Professional with great results
As with many, this was my first experience hiring a lawyer. I was facing a DUI with an over intox. Of course I was both and stressed and embarrassed. Nick made me feel comfortable, was great at communicating and letting me know what to expect. He helped prepare me for my pretrial conference by proactively recommending classes that may be required but were also beneficial. My pretrial went better than I ever expected and my charges were reduced to an OWVI. My sentencing again proved what great counsel Nick was as I received no probation and the judge was satisfied with what Nick had recommended for classes. While this is not something I would ever want to go through again, Nick made it a pleasant and educational experience. Nick may be a younger lawyer with a bit less experience than some, but his execution and advice was flawless. I would recommend him to anyone who is going through a difficult time and needs legal counsel.

Amazing attorney
Nick was incredibly professional and was able to accommodate my financial situation as well. I was facing charges that would have resulted in a misdemeanor offense. The prosecutor had no intention of letting me go easy. However Nick was able to drop the charges down to a civil infraction and my record was left spotless. Not only is he talented, he is a very nice person as well. I would recommend him to anyone in need of legal counsel

Would definitely recommend!

my opinion
5 stars doesnt even accommodate for how much he fought for my case.. he did an excellent job communicating with me while I was his client I never felt like he was keeping me in the dark..he was always up front and truthful and he let you know the outcome either way good or bad...he got what I wanted out of the case plus more..he kept up on his paper work and all the leads he had as well.. he gave it 120 percent everytime he looked at the case ..nick in my daughters eyes is her hero now!! I would most defiantly reefer nick to anyone that needed a lawyer ....thank you nick for everything you have done for me and my family...words still cant describe how thankful we truly are!!

Great choice
I was completely satisfied with my experience with Nick. I'm not from the East Lansing area, so choosing him to represent me was a great idea. He was very familiar with the people at the court, which really helps anyone's case. He was very organized and always stayed in contact with me via email letting me know what was going on. Excellent Choice for Criminal Matter
A colleague recommended Nick Calkins for a criminal matter in 54B District Court. I met with Nick and he was fully prepared and developed a strategy for addressing the problem. He kept me in the loop, was very responsive to calls of emails, and treated me with the utmost respect, making my experience with the legal system as pain-free as possible.
