Patrick McKay graduated in 2001 from Notre Dame High School in Harper Woods. He attended Marian University in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and graduated (cum laude) in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a double-major in Marketing and Management. In 2005, he was chosen “Marketing Student of the Year” by the Marian University Faculty and was a finalist for Student-Athlete of the Year and Student of the Year. While attending law school he worked as a law clerk for Kirk, Huth, Lange & Badalamenti, PLC. In 2008, he received his Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and was hired as an attorney by Kirk, Huth, Lange & Badalamenti, PLC.
Mr. McKay is a member of the State Bar of Michigan (Real Property and Labor & Employment Sections), the Macomb County Bar Association, and has been admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. In 2013, 2014 and 2015 he was rated as a Rising Star by SuperLawyers.
Mr. McKay has a vast array of experience in civil litigation cases, some of which have focused on employment, business contracts, construction lien foreclosure, shareholder/member disputes, personal injury, premises liability and municipal claims and defenses.
Mr. McKay also represents individuals and corporate entities regarding their real estate transactions and associated needs. He works alongside his clients negotiating the deal, through the inspection period, to closing. He has experience negotiating, drafting and ensuring compliance with transactional documents such as letters of intent, offers to purchase, and purchase agreements.
Mr. McKay also provides advice and services to his business clients. This includes the creation and review of bylaws, operating agreements, buy/sell agreements, stock and asset redemption agreements, employment agreements, non-compete agreements, confidentiality agreements and manufacturing and supply contracts. He also assists with liqour license and landlord/tenant issues.
Mr. McKay advises municipal clients regarding their employment issues and labor negotiations. He has also worked alongside banks and court appointed receivers regarding Receivership litigation, business operations, real property management, collections and the liquidation and sale of real and personal property.
