My legal concentration is in appellate and commercial litigation in both state and federal courts.
Before joining Lippitt O’Keefe, I served as a law clerk intern for the Honorable Richard F. Suhrheinrich, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. I later served as a law clerk for the Honorable Marilyn J. Kelly, Chief Justice, Michigan Supreme Court, 1999 to 2000, and then in 2000, I served as a pre-hearing attorney for the Michigan Court of Appeals.
In 2010, I was appointed to serve through 2012 on the Michigan Supreme Court Committee on Model Civil Jury Instructions.
In addition to my love of the law, I also play music. I have been playing the piano for over 30 years and I have been playing professionally since I was 14 years old. In 2002, I won third prize in a Jerry Lee Lewis sound alike competition in Memphis, TN and I love to play ragtime and boogie-woogie piano.

Although I was not formally a client, I did have the opportunity to discuss the details of a pending Appellate Case. Others that I'd talked with seemed to add more questions to the equation--but not Mr. McCarthy. I found him to be very patient with my multitude of questions and generous with the am...
Thank you for your kind words.

He was personable, sympathetic and I would recommend him in the future. However, to date Mr. McCarthy has not answered an "Avvo followed up email" that I sent subsequent to our telephone conversation, thus the average rating. :-)
I'm sorry that I missed your email. If you please resend, I certainly will respond.

Whenever I hire outside appellate counsel, I use Daniel McCarthy. His legal analysis and appellate arguments are the best. Daniel did a brilliant job for my clients on several appeals, including Unibar Maintenance v Saigh, Lawsuit Financial v Curry, Rubenstein v Pelle Pelle
Thank you very much.
"Daniel McCarthy's knowledge of the law, creative thinking and litigations skills makes him a powerful advocate for his clients. I give him my absolute and unqualified endorsement."
"I endorse this lawyer. From the time he spends helping people on Avvo by answering their questions, it shows how much he cares about people."
"endorse Attorney McCarthy. From his answers and time on Avvo, it is clear he is dedicated to serving those in need and his clients. It's rare that lawyers spend so much valuable time helping the community, for free, and I applaud him for doing it to such a great level. Kudos."
"I endorse this lawyer. I recently worked with Dan on a complicated federal trademark violation suit. He was extremely thorough and well-prepared, and a talented advocate. I highly recommend him."
"I endorse this lawyer. Dan is a fine attorney who quickly recognizes and understands complex legal issues."
"I endorse this lawyer. I have worked with Dan McCarthy several times over the past decade on a variety of complex business disputes. He is exceedingly capable in both trial and appellate practice."
"I endorse this lawyer. Dan has been a loyal partner. His appellate work is second to none. Dan clerked for the Michigan Supreme Court and I rely on Dan for all of my appeals and briefing. He's one of the best!"
"I endorse this lawyer. My former firm was fortunate to hire Dan as an associate at the end of his clerkship with the Michigan Supreme Court. Although we no longer work at the same firm, I still work with Dan, on major appeals. I endorse Dan without reservation."
