DUI Case, Total Loss

I hired Paul Dickman for a DUI case over a year ago. He promised to get a lessor charge, resulted in a Triple Charge in 3 states!! Court papers lined out all the "Full Limits of the Charge" which they even went over that. Nothing but excuses from Paul, and he said nothing is guaranteed. Well, for onc...e, he was correct. The papers which were agreed on, they went twice as much on suspensions and fees. Good Ol'Paul, nothing. All he can repeat, no guarantee. I've sent several emails, called several times.... nothing, even a reply isn't guaranteed... isn't that nice, $3,000 nothing but the worst!!! Now that's guaranteed, maybe that money will buy him a backbone, or pride in his business. I'll repost once a week, let everyone know how he really is.

Trey resided in Louisiana and hired me to defend him on a DUI case in Boyd County, Kentucky. After examining the facts of the case I advised him that the only defense was to try to suppress the breath results as the methods employed by the officers were, in my mind, suspect. We agreed on a fee and entered into a standard contract. In Kentucky it is unethical to make any guarantees as to the out come of any criminal case- and my contract states that clearly - as pointed out by Trey. Thus his comment that I "promised a lessor charge" is obviously false. After a full hearing wherein we cross examined the officers and challenged the breath results, the Court ruled against us and stated that the jury would be able to see these results. After much deliberation, and, consistent with my advise, Trey entered a guilty plea to the DUI charge as there was no other defense. Since he was from out of state we convinced the judge to give him one full year to pay his fines, and complete the Alcohol class that is required for any Kentucky DUI. Kentucky also requires a suspended license for any DUI. I explained to Trey multiple times that since he was from out of state, his home state may very well suspend his license as well - which they did. I went out of my way to find a class for him in Louisiana and made arrangement's for him to take the class. After seeing this review I contacted him and learned that in fact he had not taken the class as arranged, and had moved to another state and applied for a license. Had he simply taken the class and paid the fines he still would have faced suspension in his original home state of Louisiana but the case would have been resolved by now. Moving to another state while this was all pending without having taken the class or paying the fines only made matter worse. Trey was a nice guy but wanted to be "his own lawyer" and not follow my advice after the plea. Lesson here is - follow your lawyers advice! P.S. The claims that I didn't return calls or emails are simply false. Any client of mine knows that I return calls and even give out my personal cell number to all clients.

Relationship: Opposing Counsel on matter

"Paul has a rare quality of being both intelligent and humble. Everyone likes Paul. He uses this to his advantage both in and out of the courtroom. I had a case where Paul was on the other side. Paul did very well for his client because he was methodical in all his legal decisions but was a pleasant person to work against. He is very good at disarming his opposing party due to these tactics. I hope I do not have him as opposing counsel in the future as he is very good at his job. However, I have recommended him in the past to family and friends and will continue to do so in the future."
