Virginia was an absolutely terrible lawyer. I regret working with her and hiring her as my lawyer, though I am grateful that my experience with her helped me better understand what qualities I should look for when hiring a different lawyer in the future. I would highly suggest that anyone conside...ring using Virginia as their divorce lawyer pause and realize that this is a lawyer that does not invest the time and energy you are hoping they will into your case. She was unprepared, lacked clear direction, and waffled on her strategy multiple times over.

Disappointed

Very disappointed in this legal console which cost me over $20,000 a few years ago. I felt she fought more for my ex than she did for me. She caved in the mediation which cost me over $250,000. Not to mention all follow-up advise that was given started off positive, then when it came down to action, ...she caved again. I wouldn't recommend hiring her.

Divorce

Spent over $7000 in 3 months, just to have her quit our case. When told that we didn’t feel she was representing us she became angered. Save your money.

Fantastic

Our daughter went through a divorce a few years ago, which means it affects the whole family as well. We found Ms Story to know exactly what to do and when to do it. Since her focus is on the client, we were able to sit back and observe her in action. She was professional and thorough and kind. When ...anything has come up afterwards for our daughter she has been there immediately and effectively. She is very good!

Awful

Ms. Story is not professional. Repeatedly went against my wishes, and did not listen. She was all about nickel and diming me, and very little concern with fighting for me. In the end, I wished I had not retained her.

Relationship: Opposing Counsel on matter

"Virginia is the gold standard for divorce lawyers. She is a walking encyclopedia of laws and cases that affect divorce and child custody. Her instincts for the likely outcomes of a case can come only from the years she has devoted to practicing strictly family law. Not only does Virginia know the law and how to use it to her client's best advantage, she is lovely to all parties, attorneys and court staff in the process. I highly recommend Virginia."

Relationship: Co-worker

"I was presented with the opportunity to become an associate attorney with Mrs. Story's office in the summer of 2014. Since that time Mrs. Story has mentored me and helped me to grow my own practice. She has been practicing law for over 30 years and I greatly rely on her experience and expertise. She has a high return rate of clients, which speaks volumes about her professionalism and contacts in the community."

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 1989.

Publicly Censured issued in TN, 1989

updated on 07/27/2015

This means the attorney did something wrong, but the Bar did not suspend the lawyer. Typically in this case the lawyer's poor behavior is exposed to the public in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior.

Virginia’s comment:

“This action occurred over 26 years ago and it is not indicative of Mrs. Story's commitment to the Bar and her clients. Her integrity has been proven and it is unfortunate that an incident so many years ago would still be active.”
