    55%
Rich represents individuals and businesses in government contract, intellectual property, employment, and other complex litigation matters. He also has experience defending white collar matters, including False Claims Act cases.

  2. Government contracts
    30%
Rich advises government contractors with respect to the laws and regulations that government federal government procurements. He regularly represents clients in protests before agencies, and in the GAO and the United States Court of Federal Claims.

  3. Employment and labor
    15%
Employment law involves the rights and duties of employers and workers. Rich's practice includes advice on federal and state employment laws, legislation, administrative rules, and court opinions, as well as employment contracts and benefits.

I represent clients in complex litigation, including government contracts litigation and "bet the company" matters involving trade secrets, noncompetition agreements, intellectual property, contracts, and a variety of other subjects.  I have also successfully represented clients in appeals before many appellate courts, including the Fifth, Sixth, Eleventh U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the Alabama Supreme Court, and the Florida 1st District Court of Appeal, and in specialty courts like the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.  I also have experience representing clients facing False Claims Act claims and in other White Collar Crime cases.

The U.S. Army trusted me to advise generals and other senior commanders in the Balkans in the 1990s.  The 17,700 lawyers of Alabama trusted me to represent them, as one of the youngest Alabama State Bar Presidents in history.  My clients trust me because I have handled complex cases in multiple venues, ranging from military courts-martial to U.S. Courts of Appeal, and across Alabama from Madison County to Mobile County.

In every matter entrusted to me, my goal is to provide solutions to my clients' complex legal problems in a reasonable period of time.  By returning telephone calls promptly, updating clients regularly, and working harder than others, while displaying courtesy and respect toward clients, opponents, and courts, I work hard to achieve this goal.

---------------

I am an attorney with and Shareholder of the firm, Wilmer & Lee, and a resident attorney in the firm’s Huntsville, Alabama office. I served as President of the Alabama State Bar from July 2014-July 2015.

I attended the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama School of Law, where I graduated cum laude. After graduation, I served in the United States Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps, from 1995 to 2000, when I returned to Alabama to join the North Alabama law firm Wilmer & Lee.

I have a diverse litigation practice, have tried numerous trials in various state and federal courts, and have argued cases before the Fifth and Eleventh U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal and the Florida 1st District Court of Appeals. I am admitted to practice in Alabama and Tennessee, as well as various federal courts, including the United States Court of Federal Claims, the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and the United States Tax Court.

From July 2004 to July 2013, I served on the Alabama State Bar’s Board of Bar Commissioners. During that time, I served on numerous committees and task forces, including for many years on the MCLE Commission and on one of the Alabama State Bar’s Disciplinary Panels. From July 2014 to July 2015, I served as President of the Alabama State Bar.

I am a Fellow in the Alabama Law Foundation and the American Law Foundation; and I am dedicated to Access to Justice and Pro Bono issues, and issues facing Veterans.  Since 2011, I have served on the Council of the Alabama Law Institute, and I had the pleasure of working on the committee that drafted the 2016 update to Alabama's law concerning non-compete agreements.

I am also a member of the American Law Institute and serve in the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association.

I also enjoy serving my local community.  I have served the Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association on numerous committees. I am a member of the Downtown Rotary Club. I serve on the board of directors of The Arts Council.  I served for seven years on the Board of Directors of the National Children’s Advocacy Center, concluding my service as its president. I have also served as president of the Downtown Forty-Seven, on the Advisory Board of the Sparkman Center Boys and Girls Club, and on the Board of the Old Town Historic District Association.

Excellent Corporate and Gov. Affairs Representation
Rich has represented both my firm and me personally on complex legal matters ranging from employee terminations to business purchasing. He is very responsive - I received an email response or a phone call back in 10-15 minutes in all cases ... even when he was traveling out of town. His government service & experience provide him a great foundation for understanding complex contractual issues and issues that face a government contractor. On a personal note, Rich is an all-around nice guy, easy to talk with and his ethics and morality are above reproach. I will continue to hire him without hesitation.

Against all odds
Richard took on a wrongful termination suit that was emotionally charged and high risk by any measure. Even our own clients and customers were starting to believe we would lose the case and go out of business. But Richard is morally well grounded with deep convictions on matters of justice and law. Importantly to us, he believed we were in the right, and fought for us to the very end. Based on his exceptional defense, we won the case against all odds in a jury trial that could have easily been decided on the juror's sympathies rather than on the rights of the accused. The case was decided in our favor and even withstood an appeal to the 11th circuit. We don't wish such an experience on anyone, but for those who are faced with such difficulties, we heartily recommend Richard Raleigh.

Excellent IP and Corporate Agreement Representation
Mr. Raleigh expertly represented my company in an IP litigation suit involving complex technical issues, digital media and non-competition agreements that compounded legal interpretations and analyses. Mr. Raleigh successfully navigated through the multitude of issues, eventually reaching an amicable settlement between the parties. Throughout the lawsuit, Mr. Raleigh brought not only an expert legal background to the table, but also a real-world understanding and ability to clearly articulate each complex issue to all of the involved legal parties, including judges, opposing attorneys and legal experts. I would highly recommend Mr. Raleigh for representing you in IP matters, especially if complicated technical and workplace agreement issues are a factor.

Relationship: Worked together on matter
"Richard Raleigh, Jr. and I were co-counsel in a complex business case that took years and resulted in a long trial, in 2000. The verdict was in seven figures. Just out of the Army J.A.G., Rich kept the demeanor and dignity characteristic of those who serve in that capacity. Having observed his competence, courtesy and competitiveness, his accomplishments have been no surprise. Ensuing years have projected Rich into the enviable position of being one of very few “go to guys” in government contracting in this area. He deftly weaves through the convoluted aspects of those matters, and litigation which often follows, with calm assurance. His results demonstrate ability. He was named the youngest president of our state bar while compiling an outstanding record and reputation as a business trial attorney. Achievements made by this fine citizen of our legal and public communities are too numerous to list. He has exceeded even the very high expectations I formed after working with him."
