James Ezzell is a Huntsville native who received his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville where he graduated cum laude in August 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication.

He later received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Mississippi College School of Law in May 1999, and was admitted to both the Alabama Bar and the Northern District of Alabama in the fall of 1999.
