Alan Baty

An accomplished trial attorney, Alan Baty handled over a thousand criminal cases ranging from drug possession to capital murder while serving more than eleven years as a Deputy District Attorney. He tried over 75 felony jury trials, litigated hundreds of drug and gambling asset forfeiture cases in civil court, and oversaw numerous investigations and prosecutions of white collar and high profile violent crimes. Alan also prosecuted cases involving complex criminal enterprises, uniquely qualifying him to serve clients in his private practice with Frohsin & Barger focusing on criminal defense, white collar cases, internal corporate investigations, and fraud victim assistance. Alan believes that the most effective attorneys are those that recognize not only the value of studying the law but also the importance of developing relationships with other attorneys, law enforcement and the judiciary.

In each of his last four years as a prosecutor, Alan’s fellow Birmingham attorneys voted him one of the top five state and federal prosecutors in Birmingham. Alabama judges and prosecutors have trusted Alan to brief them on new case law at annual conferences for their statewide associations. During his tenure as a prosecutor, law enforcement agencies regularly relied upon Alan to train officers and detectives on constitutional issues involving interrogations and search and seizure. Alan also served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for a multi-agency law enforcement initiative.

Prior to his work as a prosecutor, Alan practiced as an associate at a major Birmingham law firm. While there, he handled mass insurance sales fraud litigation and assisted in obtaining a $3,000,000 judgment in an estate embezzlement case in which he spearheaded subsequent collection efforts.

Alan serves as an adjunct professor at Cumberland School of Law where he teaches basic trial advocacy skills. He also taught Legal Ethics at the Birmingham School of Law.
