Scott Hays Carter

Scott Hays Carter was born in Lakewood, Ohio, and later pursued his education at Texas Christian University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1982. Following this, he attended Southern Methodist University School of Law, where he obtained his Juris Doctorate Degree in 1985. Attorney Carter began his legal career in Fort Worth, Texas, practicing until 1992, when he transitioned to the Sarasota County Attorney's Office as an Assistant County Attorney, a role he held until 2000. He is an active member of the Florida Bar (Trial Lawyers Section), the State Bar of Texas, the Sarasota County Bar Association, and the Judge John M. Scheb American Inn of Court. He holds licenses to practice law in all state courts within Florida and Texas, as well as before the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Additionally, Mr. Carter is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Civil Mediator. Residing in Sarasota, Florida, he is an Elder at First Presbyterian Church of Sarasota, while his wife, Clare Carter, serves as the Director of First Presbyterian Preschool. The couple has two adult children.
