As a criminal defense attorney for over 20 years, I have seen firsthand the fear and confusion people face when they have been arrested. That is why my law firm, James A. May, P.A. in Clearwater, has worked hard to protect the rights of Floridians accused of wrongdoing since 2006. I pursue the best possible resolutions for my clients’ situations. While I focus my practice in the area of criminal defense, I have colleagues in house who handle personal injury and family law cases.
My criminal defense law firm handles cases involving a multitude of allegations, including:
DUI/DWI — I stand up for individuals arrested for DUI/DWI and other serious traffic violations, examining the circumstances to determine whether or not there are grounds for dismissal or a reduction of charges.
Gun and weapons crimes — My law firm handles cases involving gun and weapons crimes. I am deeply familiar with the laws surrounding the sale and possession of firearms and will fight for a positive outcome.
Drug crimes — Charges of possession, distribution or manufacturing are serious, which is why I work hard to find weaknesses in the prosecution’s case in drug crime cases.
Theft — If you have been apprehended for burglary, shoplifting or some other theft crime, I will work hard to build a strong defense.
Sex crimes and violent crimes — My law firm helps defendants being prosecuted for assault and battery and other violent offenses as well as sex crimes.
White collar crimes — I develop strategic defenses for clients charged with embezzlement, money laundering and other white collar crimes.
Parole & probation — If you were accused of violating the terms of parole and probation, you can count on me to protect your rights.
My Florida law firm vigorously pursues the most satisfactory outcome for you, no matter what you were charged with.
At James A. May, P.A. in Clearwater, I aggressively defend Floridians throughout the Tampa Bay area who have been accused of a variety of misdemeanor and felony crimes.

Went better than expected, never even had to go to a court date
Hired James for multiple traffic charges in pinellas and a theft charge in Hillsborough. Gave a flat fee first day we met, and never tried to nickel and dime us or invoice us after based on his time. Got everything consolidated and reduced for her without even needing us to appear. We let him know up...
