Richard Allen Canina

also known as Richard A. Canina

About me

Attorney Richard A. Canina has dedicated his career to helping those accused of crimes in Brevard County, FL. 100% of his practice is devoted to criminal defense. Richard works alongside his father, Attorney Richard G. Canina, to protect and defend the rights of those accused of serious crimes. Born and raised in Brevard County, Richard grew up observing his father fight for the rights and freedoms of those entangled in the criminal justice system. From day one, he always knew that he wanted to help people the same way.

After graduating from Holy Trinity Academy in Melbourne, FL, he attended Florida State University, where he graduated with honors, obtaining an undergraduate degree in Psychology, Minoring in Criminal Justice and Criminology. At Florida State, he was a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. After college, Richard attended Stetson University College of Law in St. Petersburg, FL. While at Stetson, Richard geared his course selections toward criminal defense work and criminal trial advocacy. He successfully completed internships at the Public Defender’s Office for the Sixth Judicial Circuit as well as with a local criminal defense firm.

Upon graduating and passing the Bar Exam, Richard went to work as an Assistant Public Defender for Kathleen Smith, Public Defender (20th Judicial Circuit) in Fort Myers, FL. Richard handled thousands of misdemeanor cases including DUI and domestic violence charges. His performance quickly earned him a promotion to the Felony division where he successfully defended against serious charges involving VIolent crimes, sex crimes, robbery, burglary, assault, felony drug charges, theft, large-scale fraud crimes, and white collar crimes. He was able to obtain hundreds of favorable resolutions and many "not-guilty" verdicts for his clients.

After gaining valuable courtroom and trial experience, Richard decided to return to Brevard County to start a family and work alongside Richard Sr. at his firm, where he has worked ever since. Together, they are a true "Defense Team" who work hand-in-hand with their clients to provide highly-personalized legal services and experienced defense for their clients.

Richard''s passion is to UNCONDITIONALLY HELP those accused of crimes. His experience has given him invaluable insights into the workings of the State Attorney’s Office, as well as into many police agencies and other state departments. Richard routinely utilizes resources such as private investigators, doctors, psychologists, and various experts to aid in obtaining the best possible outcomes in his cases. He is passionate about criminal law and guarantees top-notch personal service to all of his clients and their needs. Richard is committed to giving his clients the best defense possible.
