Jim has been a Florida lawyer for two decades. Jim’s experience in many kinds of accident cases helps clients understand what their options are, and how to prepare for the resolution of a personal injury claim. Life has prepared Jim well to represent people as a Florida personal injury lawyer. Jim was born in Wasilla, Alaska to a rugged frontier farming family. Wanting a sunnier home, the Vickaryous family moved to Naples, Florida, where Jim spent his formative years, played football and graduated from Barron Collier High School. Recognizing a budding fighter, the U.S. Army awarded Jim a four-year academic scholarship to attend the University of Miami, were he obtained a bachelors degree in history. In the Tampa Bay area he earned his law degree from Stetson University College of Law in 1993. He honed his ability to quantify clients’ losses by earning a Masters in Business Administration from Stetson University. Jim’s legal experience has been sharpened by leading troops in hostile territory. Jim led a military police reserve unit to Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1997. Recognizing a job well done, Jim was awarded the NATO Medal For Service in Former Yugoslavia and brought his troops home safely. Jim enjoys practicing as a Florida personal injury lawyer because of the unique opportunity it gives to meet and help many different people. Jim believes in being profoundly related to the people around him. Jim is Chairman for the Rescue Outreach Mission of Central Florida, Seminole County’s only homeless rehabilitation center with separate facilities for homeless woman & children and homeless men, and is the Presenting Sponsor for its two signature fundraising events: the Rescue Run Corporate 5K and the Servants of the People Luncheon. He also serves on the Advisory Committee to the Seminole County Parks and Preservation, and the 18th Judicial Circuit's Local Professionalism Panel for Seminole County. Being a successful Florida personal injury lawyer requires learning the latest legal developments by constantly reading recent court decisions, communicating with other attorneys, and listening to what local judges and juries require. In order to do this, Jim is President of the Seminole County Bar Association, Treasurer for the Central Florida Trial Attorneys Association, and the program director of the Inns of Court, a prestigious legal organization founded to promote professionalism in the Bar. He is also a member of the Volusia County Bar Association, the Orange County Bar Association, the Florida Justice Association, the American Association for Justice, the Seminole County Chamber of Commerce, the Florida Bar, and the International Law Section of the Florida Bar, and is a Fellow in The Florida Bar Foundation, the Florida Bar’s charitable trust.
