Thoughtful and knowledgeable

Amy is a thoughtful and knowledgeable attorney. She considers the case from a variety of angles and helps the client establish reasonable expectations and she works hard to meet them. She is compassionate and hard working.

Custody and Dissolution of Marriage

Amy Hamlin is professional, knowledgeable, and compassionate. My priority during my divorce was to protect and provide for my children. Amy diligently worked on my behalf to ensure their future was as secure as possible. She asked thoughtful questions and provided guidance so I was able to be informe...d and comfortable with key decisions. I highly recommend her.

Confident, Professional and Personable!

Amy served as not only my attorney but a good sounding board! She assisted me with a very difficult divorce and complicated child custody. My case(s) lasted several years as one issue led to another. I always felt that Amy was a good sounding board and offered me solid advice. She pays attention to d...etails and anticipates every conceivable roadblock. Amy made sure I was prepared - every "i" dotted and all "t's" crossed! I highly recommend Amy for any family law question or service needed.

Excellent Lawyer!

I hired Amy to represent me in my divorce case. From the start I felt confident in her ability to represent me and she obtained a very favorable outcome with my case. Amy is very thorough, knowledgeable and treats her clients with the utmost kindness and compassion. A true professional! I would not h...esitate to retain her services in the future or recommend her to anyone in need of a family law lawyer.

Not a litigator

Amy is a calm, pragmatic attorney and I believe she understands the law. And she may be perfect for a very low-conflict divorce... But in a highly-contested one such as mine, her assumptions about being able to "remain calm" and "do the right thing" only lead to poor decisions that ended up costi...ng me tens of thousands of dollars (not including an absurd amount in attorneys fees) and only prolonged my divorce, which ended up taking more than two years to finalize. I ended up having to part ways with Amy and hire a real litigator. Bottom line, go with a litigator from the start. No matter the situation, it's always better to have an attorney with some teeth on your side. Divorces can go sideways really fast, no matter the intentions.

Before I joined the Aikin Family Law Group, I worked at an aggressive litigation firm for 9 years. I saw so many families torn apart and, inevitably, there was never a “winner.” I’m not opposed to litigation and do litigate many of my cases, but I also do try to settle before rushing to the courtroom. Thank you for the compliment about my calmness and knowledge of the law; they serve me well both in and out of the courtroom. There are so many factors to consider before taking the litigation path, and it was unfortunate in your case, that resolution could not be reached.

Relationship: Opposing Counsel on matter

"Amy Hamlin is a wonderful attorney. She honestly cares about her clients and will do everything she can to bring the matter to a peaceful resolution that is in everyone's best interest, with the focus on the children. Instead of wasting her clients' time and money filing extra pleadings and fighting over minute details with excessive litigation, Amy seeks to concentrate on the "big picture" and bring the entire case to a place where the family can settle the case. She understands that Family Law is a unique area of law and that "fighting" in court only leaves emotional scars on both parents and the children. I respect her integrity, compassion, understanding, and professionalism. I wish there were more family law attorneys in our community like Amy Hamlin."
