Exceptional Criminal Law Attorney

I am writing this to say Thank You to Attorney Stephen Cobb and express my foremost gratitude and recommendation of him as a Criminal Law Attorney. Initially, Mr. Cobb is Florida Bar Board Certified as a Specialist in Criminal Trial Law, being very difficult to attain and achieved by few attorneys.... He only practices criminal law, giving him a keen focus in this area of law. He has remarkable knowledge of the technical criminal laws and rules, which is very comforting as a client. He is very detail oriented, obtains extensive background information, develops a comprehensive plan of action for his cases, and is always very well prepared for court. He knows the criminal justice system and parties very well, allowing him to develop a practical, common sense approach to his cases, and be an excellent negotiator and strategist. Mr. Cobb is very much a real person and has compassion and patience towards his clients, yet still tells it like it is in a straightforward and honest manner. He is very easy to talk to and returns phone calls and emails in a timely manner. He is professional, respectful, honest, and even-tempered in court, yet is a tough and persistent adversary and negotiator, and is well respected by judges and his peers. He has extensive knowledge of mental health issues, laws, and resources related to criminal law, including brain imaging, evaluations, and treatment, allowing him to help people with their legal issues, as well as their overall wellbeing. Despite his vast experience and expertise, he is still a competitive and reasonably-priced professional. He goes above and beyond and treats his clients like a whole person, in a system which can be frightening, rigid, and impersonal. In sum, I give my utmost appreciation and recommendation to Attorney Stephen Cobb as an exceptional, highly skilled, and dedicated Criminal Law specialist attorney.

Phenominal lawyer and an outstanding man!

When my son was accused of a crime he did not commit, I wanted the best for his defense and Stephen Cobb is by far the best. He is extremely knowledgeable in his field. He is the definition of a tiger in the courtroom. He was able to take my son from a VERY long prison sentence, that he didn't deserv...e, to probation. What should have been an open and shut case was drug out for almost 10 months and he never charged me more money. He also sent us to the Amen Clinic, and while I had my reservations about that, it turned out to be great. Things were discovered about my son that only brain imaging could find. Now, Miss Janice, she is wonderful and sweet woman with so much patience. My emails and calls always returned in a timely manner. She is by far the most sweet yet professional woman I have ever had the pleasure of getting to know. If we had to do this all over again, I would choose Stephen Cobb. Thank you so much Mr. Cobb and Miss Janice for your time and outstanding service to my son and for always believing in him. I could never thank you enough. To say that I am eternally grateful wouldn't define it.

Outstanding performance

I could not have been more fortunate to have stumbled across Stephen Cobb's name when trying to find a lawyer for my misdemeanor case. He and his assistant Janice were extremely professional, honest, and sincere. Not to mention, it was very affordable and worth every penny spent. Both Stephen and Jan...ice returned my calls promptly and thoroughly. The most comforting part was knowing that my case was in great hands and throughout the process I felt Stephen Cobb would be successful in getting the outcome I had hoped to achieve - and he did!

Excellent attorney

I recently moved to Florida and was pulled over and cited for D.U.I. Mr. Cobb represented me in my defense of this charge. I chose Mr. Cobb because of the amount of time he spent discussing my case pro-bono before I ever even became his client. He took time to discuss all of my options and the pro...bability of my successful defense of the charges before I ever committed to him as a client. He was extremely thorough in my defense and completely on top of everything. Inside the 10-day appeal window, he was able to get me a temporary driving permit so that I could continue driving, which was critical for my work situation. Additionally, I was able to get my license returned to me in full when he successfully appealed to have my stop suppressed. The hearing concluded that the officer did not have sufficient cause for pulling me over and my license was returned. Although I won this hearing, it has no bearing on the criminal aspect of the case itself. That is a separate part of the process. Although Mr. Cobb had demonstrated his ability to defend me, I could not use the fact that the hearing for reinstating my license had indicated that the officer didn’t have sufficient reason for pulling me over. I wasn’t weaving in traffic, speeding, or any other moving violation. Basically, I was on the road at 4 a.m. with out of state tags in Destin, and that was all that the officer needed to assume I had been drinking. Because of my strong evidence in suppressing the stop, I was offered several plea bargains and I choose to accept a plea to a lesser charge the day before I was scheduled for trial. This was completely my decision and Mr. Cobb supported me either way I wanted to go on this. I just didn’t think it was worth the gamble and wasn’t in any position to be rolling the dice. I am extremely pleased with the outcome of my representation by Mr. Cobb and although I found him to be a fantastic lawyer, I hope that I never require his services again. But I am gladly referring him as a guy who knows the law and will work with you to all ends to win your case.

For the small fortune I paid, not worth it.

If you messed up, you are probably Googling anything you can relating to your issue, and there is no doubt you came across this web page in search for a lawyer. At least I did, so when I saw a ten out of ten rating I certainly figured this was the attorney I needed to help me. After all was said and... done, I want to make a couple things clear. First, if I did not get an attorney, I would of ended up in jail most likely. Second, I can not give this attorney more then 2 stars. I made a bad decision in life, I needed legal representation. As stated above, I Googled and researched and tried to figure out at as much as I could, about what exactly I was up against. I also recognized I needed an attorney, and saw Stephen Cobb's profile on this website. I saw the high rating and decided this was the attorney I wanted. I immediately called his office and scheduled a free consultation, in which I talked to Mr. Cobb. I appreciated his honesty and candidness with the details surrounding my case. The free consultation is good to have. After I hired this attorney, I never once spoke to him again. He never emailed me, he never called or talked to me in anyway, nor did we have any face to face meetings, even at the courthouse. All the work was accomplished by his secretary (who is amazing and worked extremely hard for me, answered all my calls and answered my questions the best she could, and if she did not know an answer she would get the information and call me back. Kudos to Janice.) Mr. Cobb utilized his co-council for my case, and I was able to get in touch with that attorney, but only if I made the effort to contact them first. However, after we did talk, I felt confident and reassured by the co-council. The court date was the first time I met face-face with any attorney, and that was Mr. Cobb's co-council. The co-council and I talked about our options and after meeting the judge, were able to come to an ideal plea. It was quick, painless (considering the circumstances) and after an hour we parted ways. And that is where the majority of my dealings with this attorney end, and frustrations begin. I have had issues with the DMV regarding hardship license renewals. I would like to talk about this, and include it in my review because this is what seems "shady" about Mr. Cobb in my opinion. After trying to renew my hardship license, ( a license suspension was part of my strife in this case) the DMV told me I could not for a month because I never showed at my first court appearance. However, I was told by (well, the secretary told me.. remember, I never said a word to Mr. Cobb after he was hired.) the secretary that I did not have to show, and we would be given a new court date. Fast forward time, and now because of some kind of miscommunication, I was not able to get a hardship license for a month. Calling back to Mr. Cobb's secretary, his excuse was I needed to complete DUI school before the original temporary license expired, like he said. I would like to point out this is false, he never once even talked to me.. how could he have told me to perform DUI school prior to renewing my hardship license? Before this becomes "he said, she said", let me say I have no one to blame about this besides myself. But let me tell you, if I dropped 5k on an attorney, and this is what I got - I am extremely dissatisfied. Yes, he kept me out of jail, but who is to say any other attorney couldn't of done that, for much cheaper cost? Maybe another attorney would have actually spoken to their client who paid good money for representation, and would have had the foresight to mention everything that needed to be accomplished for a hardship license, court date appearances, etc. Maybe DUI cases are too mundane, regular, or predictable, but I did not ever feel confident in this attorney throughout this process. I would not recommend Mr. Cobb. You will get an attorney that will not speak to you, and pay a small fortune.

Well, anonymous former client who isn’t so anonymous to me, I certainly agree you “have no one to blame about this besides [your]self” and a quick review of the file tracking notes provides a point by point rebuttal while exposing you to a civil action for libel. However: “A lawyer’s duty to keep client confidences has few exceptions and in an abundance of caution I do not feel at liberty to respond in a point by point fashion in this forum. Suffice it to say that I do not believe that the post presents a fair and a accurate picture of the events.” - Recommended response to negative social media reviews, Opinion of Florida Bar Ethics Counsel quoting Texas Ethics Opinion 662 with approval, The Florida Bar News, August 1, 2018. Please feel free to release me from that duty by signing a Waiver of Confidentiality so I can fully respond, okay? I can’t really respond, so am I going to sue for libel under Blake v. Giustibelli, where the 4th DCA upheld a $350,000.00 libel judgment due to a similar, dishonest review? No. You’re just upset. I’m not going to kick you while you’re down. At most, I’d make a point by point response if you sign a waiver. Besides: People around here know me. I’ve kept a lot of people out of jail, had a murder case dismissed, won countless DUI cases and have even won a double Capital Sexual Battery trial. All of us wish you the best. No hard feelings. Even if you don’t want to sign a waiver, if you need anything just pick up the phone and call.

"I endorse this lawyer's work. I practice mainly in appeals, so I get to compare the work of dozens or even hundreds of criminal trial attorneys. Mr. Cobb is among the best. What sets him apart is that he vigorously pursues a case from every angle. In a case we worked on together, he filed motions that were different from the motions that every other attorney files. I was impressed with his ability to get involved in discovery of internet materials and use them effectively to win his case. He simply fights harder than most attorneys out there, and that counts for a lot when you've been charged with a crime. I'd hire him for myself or a family members in a second."
