Belkis is the best attorney for child custody. My ex kidnapped my baby from me her firm went to court on an emergency pick up order and got my baby back. A family friend’s daughter (Miss PG), whom at that time was incarcerated at the Duval County Juvenile Detention Center, had recently been charged with felony resisting arrest and battery on a law enforcement officer, and was facing the dismal and defeating prospect of many months or years behind bars..., away from her mom, brothers and sisters. Feedback from family visits at the facility indicated authorities were engaging in abusive disciplinary methods, and likely had violated the young girl’s rights. The next day Ms. Plata visited the detention center, obtained the necessary consent for representation, and provided much needed assurances to Miss PG and family members. In the following days and weeks, through intelligent and timely methods of discovery, presentation of motions, and attendance at hearings, Ms. Plata was successful in holding juvenile justice authority accountable for the mal-treatment of Miss PG. These efforts included Ms. Plata’s persistent questioning of why her client had not been moved out of local detention and safely placed in a residence facility for girls in need of help. Finally, a short time after Miss PG was moved to her intended resident program, in the words of Ms. Plata, the authorities “saw the light” and all charges related to the arrest incident were dismissed.
