Hired him for a misdemeanor probation modification hearing. I was pleased that he quickly filed the motion and set up a hearing date on the court calendar. After sitting in the court room for hours waiting for my hearing, he frequently spoke to the prosecutor. At the hearing he tried to convince me to numerous modification terms that weren't any better than my original probation terms. I left the hearing confused and frustrated as Tom quickly departed. I reported to my probation officer immediately after the hearing to learn that my probation was going to be terminated 18 months early. I followed up in an email to Tom to review the scanned modification for me. Due to my disbelief and shock, I wanted the attorney I hired to review the modification. Tom's reply clearly indicated that he didn't even know my probation was going to be terminated early.

Tom has helped me and my wife on many things from driving offences to dealing with a deadbeat dad . He always takes the time to listen to what you have to say and what you want to do , then tells you what your options are without being bullied like some lawyers do . He is a true professional and always seems to come out on top with his cases. He is well liked by his peers and by the judges, State's Attorney ,and all those in the Fayette County judicial system. He is fair on his pricing and does what he says he's going to do for you, you will be my lawyer for life and he is a good friend.

Tom is very quick to collect money, but VERY slow to do anything on your case. He agreed to represent me, knowing my financial situation and did nothing on my case. He helped my ex-husband more than he helped me. I lost my house because he was more concerned about getting more money than about getting me the results that I needed. He submitted paperwork without my consent, and charged me for phone calls which he did not answer or do any work on. He was horrible. Everyone should file a grievance with the state bar to get their money back. I had to wake him up when we went to mediation. He did not ask for anything on my behalf. He didn't know anything about my case. I had to call him to meet before court. He should have been calling me. There was no strategy. There was no preparation. He withdrew from the case 2 weeks before the final hearing because he wanted more than the $3500 that he received. I didn't fight it because he didn't do anything anyway. It was a waste of money to hire him. I would have been better off if I had just represented myself.

I don't want to give him any stars, but I have to give at least one.

Thomas Franklin Tierney’s response: “I strongly disagree with this review. We obtained a temporary order which allowed this client to remain in her residence and to receive child support. At all times I was responsive to her needs. I advised her was that she needed to obtain employment to prove to the Court that she could afford her expensive home. Not only did she not get employed, she was unreasonable in her expectations based on her finances and would not allow me to settle this matter. We charge reasonable rates, but expect clients to make an effort on their own behalf.”

Tom was my bankruptcy attorney. He helped get me through a rough time and was available to me for questions and support during and after the bankruptcy.

Tom Tierney has represented me twice in my high conflict custody cases and disputes with my ex. He is a highly skilled and knowledgeable divorce and custody attorney. He is not afraid to go to court if your case requires it and he will represent you with great tenacity.

I first hired Tom in 2006 to handle my bankruptcy. It was a really stressful and difficult time in my life. He was wonderful! In 2008, I hired Tom again to handle a juvenile court matter involving my young son. Again, he performed on a stellar level legally all the while showing immense care and compassion for my and my son's situation. Three months ago my spouse and I hired Tom to represent us in an adoption. Today the adoption was finalized and Tom was there with us, just as he has been throughout the years, in good times, and not so good times. He is a fantastic lawyer who really cares about his clients.

  • Recommendation of Fayette County Attorney

Mr. Tierney was very helpful and informative. Divorce is a difficult situation on many levels. He explained to me my options with respect to the law and what the possible outcome could be. If I had a question during non-business hours I would call and if he was available he would answer it, if he was not available he would return my call at a later time. Mr. Tierney and his staff made a difficult situation in my life a little less stressful. I appreciate all of his legal advice and would recommend him as a divorce attorney.

  • Excellent Bankruptcy Attorney

I hired Thomas Tierney to handle my bankruptcy and I am so glad I did. He really did a great job. He talked me through the process and explained everything in detail. Since I had never been through anything like this before this was important to me. What he charged me to handle my bankruptcy was very reasonable as well. Tom took care of me, and he will take care of you.

If I have had read his 6 reviews, I would have never hired him for my legal need.
Mr. Tierney lacks the analytical ability and creative thinking for complex issues which are the essential characteristics a good Lawyer. You are paying a premium price, $250.00 per hour. From my experience, he has no credibility and integrity.
He is a smooth talker; only “talk” no “walk”. If you disagree with him, he gets confused and get frustrated. His time keeping is depends on how much money he need that moment, he wants the client to just trust, not to verify. You just add on to his retainer account, like a cookie jar, he is pretty hungry.

Thomas Franklin Tierney’s response: “I disagree that I was confused, but agree that I was frustrated by this matter. This was a simple matter of dividing marital property after a long term marriage. Part of my job as an attorney is to organize and present evidence in an organized manner, and then to present to the Court a reasonable solution. The parties were unable to work out their differences after numerous mediations. When matters are contested it costs more money to prepare and try a case, so attorneys request additional money. In this case Mr. Althomson would not agree with my solution and would not pay additional money for court.”

I hired Mr Tierney to handle a child support reduction case. After paying him a retainer for $4000, he became extremely difficult to get him touch with. After countless phone calls, I went to his office and asked to see my file. By then nearly 2 months had past, yet no paperwork had been completed or filed with the court for child support reduction. He eventually got around to filing the case but then failed to show up for the court date.
