Allison B. Vrolijk Pulled a Bait and Switch AND hung up on me

I hired Allison Vrolijk to help me, because my child's school was not implementing his 504 plan. She told me she could help and charged me a retainer. But soon as she received the retainer, we scheduled a phone conversation. So I'm on the phone re-explaining my case, and she hung up on me right in th...e middle of my conversation. I called her right back and she then tells me I should handle the case myself and that I did not need her help. Fine. So I terminated the Agreement, but she decides that her "time" (I guess the "time" she spent hanging up on me and deciding that she couldn't help me after all), was worth one-third of my retainer which she kept and would not return to me. She's a shyster and the type of attorney that gives attorneys a sketchy reputation. Be very cautious if you decide to work with her. In fact, just keep looking. You are sure to find better and more scrupulous attorneys to choose among. I do not recommend her at all.

Since I posted my initial reply, I've been wracking my brain, trying to figure out who this was. I believe this was someone who attempted to hire me two years ago - we had the initial free phone consultation and she sent me her child's records to conduct a record review (which is a fee based service) in preparation of an anticipated 504 meeting. After spending several hours reviewing the records, it became clear to me that she had not given me the full picture regarding her son's education during our initial phone conversation -- after reviewing the records, I concluded that the school had not, in fact, violated the child's 504 plan. Upon having the follow-up consultation with the client over the phone (her choice), and informing her of my opinion (and giving her advice regarding how best to address the issues she was having with the school), she was quite obviously displeased. But anyone who knows me, knows that I will not take a case if I don't think there's any validity to it. I easily could have gone to the meeting, knowing that nothing could be done regarding a 504 that was not violated, and take a bunch of her money. Instead, I returned the balance of the money she had sent me, minus a much reduced fee given the amount of time I spent reviewing her child's records. Any suggestion that I hung up on her, or anyone, is utterly false. Any suggestion that I kept money not earned is utterly false. In fact, she was charged for about 1/3 of my actual time spent reviewing her records and consulting with her on the phone. I take deep personal offense to any and all of her false accusations. Her descriptions simply are not me. Other reviews here on Avvo, and on my website at www.vrolijklaw.com will attest to that. And to the original poster, while I can't understand why you are still so distraught over the honest advice I gave you, I hear your pain. I hope you have been able to get your son the help he needed.

Awesome Attorney for special needs kids

“Allison represented our family in 2012 to assist us in securing an appropriate education plan for our 11-year-old autistic son. Thanks to Allison we were able to reach an agreement with the school district in mediation, and my son will finally be given the education he deserves. When I notified t...he school that Allison would be attending our IEP, they finally stood up and listened, 14 employees to the IEP table! Allison is knowledgeable, organized, and professional. I wish I would have found her years ago and will definitely employ her in the future.” J.B., Parent Cobb County
