Christopher Franklin Hobson

I hired Mr. Hobson, his wife (attorney), and his staff for contempt of visitation & reduction of child support. The staff constantly forgets stuff, misplaces documentation, asks you to upload the same documents you've already uploaded, asks you the same questions repeatedly, & never returns calls as ...promised. I submitted great evidence of ex-wife's income, new business, & he never used the info I provided to reduce my child support other than reduction b/c of daycare not needed anymore. My child support was barely reduced. The worst is that I paid close to 7k and they still wanted more money without legitimately showing how it was spent. The invoices prepared by his wife was very sketchy and showed no detail to what calls were for other than listed as "call", all paperwork showed to be prepared was listed vaguely and seemed to be listed just to use up money. I didn't like that and know I'd list an itemized list when spending someone's money. The whole process didn't seat well in my spirit. I do understand that lawyers cost money, but you have to be professional, accurate, & be a good steward of your client's funds. Especially showing how you spent it.

I had a very negative experience with Mr. Hobson and his firm. Mr. Hobson’s firm ultimately kept around $730 of my retainer to do zero substantive legal work on my case. The invoices I received from Mr. Hobson’s firm contained errors, duplicative charges, and charges which didn’t make any sense. F...or example, I was charged for review of an “audio recording”, but I never provided an audio recording to be reviewed. I was charged for a “strategy meeting”, (with whom I have no idea), but given the posture of the case and that it was near conclusion with likely only one hearing left, there wouldn’t have been any “strategy” to discuss. I was charged for drafting of two 1-page template-type documents where the paralegal and attorney time overlapped for the same work and the actual amount of time charged appeared exaggerated. Finally, the attorney billing rate was incorrect on the initial invoices. When I communicated my concern regarding these activities for which I was billed, I was never given any specific explanation as to the charges nor was I provided updated/corrected invoices. Instead, I was told that the firm would provide me with a special credit in an account somewhere, but I wasn’t provided any documentation of this credit until the representation was over. It was very difficult to get a full accounting of my retainer funds from this firm despite several requests. When I went to Mr. Hobson’s office, I was told that I could not have a full accounting of my retainer because apparently no one knew how to print one out (or so I was told). I was also told that if I was contesting the invoices in my case, that I would not be allowed to have my case file (even though they already had more than enough money of mine to cover the disputed invoices and then some). Before I left, Mr. Hobson came running outside to tell me there must have been a mix up by his office staff and that I could take my file. At the end of this firm’s representation, I was amazed to receive an invoice for $125 for “scanning and closing my file” when the majority of the actual file had been provided to the attorney electronically and the actual case documents were all e-filed/electronic documents. There was no need for anyone to scan more than perhaps a few sheets of paper, if that. Amazingly, when I asked Mr. Hobson where I could find the bar rule which he claimed required him to keep a copy of the client file after representation terminated, he said he didn’t have time to do that and if he did tell me, he would have to charge me. Overall, Mr. Hobson’s responses to my inquiries were vague and non-responsive. His responses generally referred to the firm’s policy, our representation agreement, or unspecific bar rules and he typically avoided providing any direct answers to my questions. I would not refer this firm to anyone.

Mr. Hobson handled my case in a professional manner. I feel that my case was somewhat complicated and he was able to give me viable options and get the case closed quickly with the least amount of stress. Since my divorce I have retained Mr Hobson to represent me regarding issues that have arisen w...ith my ex-husband. If in the future I have any legal needs I will definately call Mr. Hobson agai .
