I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia.  My dad is one of the Vice President's of Penske Truck Leasing and we moved around a lot during and after high school.  I graduated in 1996 from Frisco High School in Frisco, Texas.  I moved to California and went to college at Univeristy of California, Irvine.  After college, I immediately began law school and graduated in 2003 from California Western School of Law in San Diego, CA.  While in law school, I focused heavily on my trial advocacy skills.  I worked at both the San Diego Public Defender's office and the San Diego District Attorney's office.  Before graduating law school, I tried two misdemeanor jury trials under the third year practice act.

After graduating, I moved to Las Vegas for me to start my legal career.  I began working for a law firm called Springel and Fink where I immediatley learned how to take and defend depositions as well as mediate very large cases.  I left Springel and Fink to get my trial feet wet and began working at the Clark Couty District Attorney's office.  I tried a lot of felony jury trials from gang related cases to attempted murder and armed robbbery.  I moved back to Atlanta in 2007.

When we moved to Atlanta, I began working for the Jackson County District Attorney's Office.  I specialized in the prosecution of sex-related crimes, including child molestation, rape, and sexual exploitation of children.  In 2009, I was approached by Epps and Pilgrim to join their team and to come out into private practice.

At Epps and Pilgrim, I primarily focused on family law cases.  I specialized in divorce, modification of child custody and support, contempt, legitimation, as well as DFCS cases.  I still keep my hands in the criminal practice, however, I primarily focused on the sex crimes cases.  I practice in Gwinnett, Forsyth, Hall, Dawson, Jackson and Barrow Counties.

In October 2013, my partner Phil Pilgrim and I left Law Offices of Epps and Pilgrim and opened up Carter Pilgrim.  Our office is located in Suwanee, Georgia and we offer services for criminal defense, family law, personal injury and business litigation cases.  We look forward to helping you!

On January 1, 2022, Carter Pilgim merged with Banks Stubbs McFarland.  We are so excited about our new team and are ready to help you with all of your legal needs. For more information about Amy's journey feel free to read personal bio on the Banks Stubbs website.

Awesome Attorney
Amy did an excellent t job representing me in my divorce case. She was very easy to deal with and she made a hard experience easier because of her care and concern for me as her client. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a good divorce attorney. Cathy M.

Outstanding Attorney
I have recommended Amy to quite a few people and they have all hired her. My case was fairly easy, well as easy as a divorce could be. She walked me through it and was fair to both sides. My sisters case was not easy at all and I saw a different side of her. I saw Amy fight for my sister and her children. She wasn’t backing down. She was thorough, kind, straight to the point and stern. I read some reviews about communication, I believe she is no different than any attorney. I’ve had a different one in the past for a car accident and he NEVER called or kept me updated. Amy Carter always communicates when she has information to share. If you want a hard working attorney, contact her!

Fantastic Divorce Attorney
Amy was incredible throughout the entire divorce process! Professional, knowledgeable, confident, prompt, easy to work with and communicable. I never once felt uneasy throughout the process, and in fact, she made my life a lot less stressful as I was obviously dreading it all. She kept me up to date on the case, as well as what to prepare for, be aware of and to expect through the divorce. Not to mention, she was always open to any and all questions I had concerning the case. She knows what’s best for her clients and is a fighter for them. She listened to everything I had to say! She is very well spoken and in a professional manner, which was apparent during the mediation process in which she laid out all the facts and stats to help settle my divorce in an amicable way. I can’t recommend Amy enough and I highly suggest hiring her as your attorney if you are going through a divorce.

Divorce Lawyer
Amy was absolutely wonderful during my divorce! She listened to both parties equally and never made either of us feel like she was “taking sides” she mediated us professionally. She offered lots of advice since we had not done this before. I have also asked her questions outside the “meetings” and she never made me feel like I had to pay her “per hour” of advice. She genuinely wants to help and has a great heart! I highly recommend!

Divorce success!!
Amy was awesome. She listened, told me my best options, offered financial referral that aided in my financial outcome, was able to secure me more than 50%of assets in my case. I feel like Amy was there to really serve me and always had my best interest at heart through her knowledge of the laws and connections with the proceedings of the Gwinnett county court systems and how different judges worked. She did an outstanding job for me and I am very pleased. I would recommend her to anyone I know going through a divorce.

Good attorney and great results
Mrs Carter represented my case and interests very thoroughly and professionally, and was excellent in Court interacting with the judge. My case turned out better than I expected and Mrs Carter did a great job assisting in asking the Court for more than I had originally anticipated.

Absolute Integrity
Amy has handled two cases for me in the last 4 years. In both of them she has been very thorough and at all times conducted herself in a most professional manner. I have recommended her to family members and they have met with similar success. I am completely confident in recommending her and am sure they will be treated as well as I have been.

Mrs. to Ms.
Amy Carter is what a lawyer should be; hard-working, dependable, and honest! She goes above and beyond for her clients and makes the process as easy as it should be (despite the circumstances). Mrs. Carter represented myself during my long (awful) divorce from my husband and I'm thankful I had her by my side. Her professionalism does not compare to anyone or anything. Mrs. Carter not only defended me but she fought for me. The best decision I made was hiring her, trusting her, and allowing her to guide me through my divorce process. Amy Carter is a 10/10! Highly recommend to everyone!

Best of the BEST
Amy was my attorney during my difficult divorce. Amy went above and beyond to make sure I was informed in every aspect of my divorce. She made me feel safe, important, and knowledgeable during the entire process. Amy made herself accessible through her personal cell, text as well as email at all times. She is always very professional and does her best to explain each and every step of the way during and after the divorce. I would have been lost without her strong support. Amy will fight for what is right for all of her clients. If I could rate her a 10 and above I certainly would!! I thank God for Amy coming into my life and representing me.

Exceeded Expectations From Beginning to End
Her professionalism does not compare to anything. We needed someone who was not just going to defend us but was going to fight for us making sure justice would be done. She listened, she was efficient, and very knowledgeable about every aspect of our case. She always made sure she was honest and upfront and did what she had to do for our family. She spent time with us walked us through every step and made sure we were always taken care of. The results of our case is more the proof of the excellent work that she does.

Look no further!
If you are seeking a reputable and knowledgeable family lawyer look no further than Carter, Pilgrim & Stroud. Attorney Carter superseded my expectations when she represented me in a custody litigation. She quickly requested a temporary hearing and got us on the calendar before the Christmas Holiday. In the end, I was able to leave the state of Georgia and relocate to North Carolina with my 10-year-old son. Thank you, Attorney Carter, for bringing normalcy back into my life!

Knowledgeable. Polished. Compassionate.
Divorce sucks. Custody drama more so. I am thankful that Amy was knowledgeable not only in the laws for Gwinnett County, but also had the foresight to consider the impact of today's decisions on my kids future. A simple example: my kid was a toddler when I divorced and "extra curricular" activities was not something I would have even thought to negotiate, however, Amy had the foresight to remind me that they would be very expensive and eventually they would be a part of my reality. She helped me plan during my divorce for details such as these that would affect me longterm. When my ex decided to drag out the finalization, she got tough and helped me make sure I was protected. She is compassionate without being emotional, which I believe allows for her to keep a clear head when I do not.

Amy's an expert at what she does
Amy recently helped me through my divorce case. I feel like I had some very unique custody issues to deal with and I could not be more happy with the result. I could confidently rely on her advise and expertise while I was dealing with things on a more emotional level. The best decision I made was putting things into her hands. She covered the details I wouldn't have thought of and she leveled honestly with me on the issues at hand. I definitely recommend Amy!
