I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. My dad is one of the Vice President's of Penske Truck Leasing and we moved around a lot during and after high school. I graduated in 1996 from Frisco High School in Frisco, Texas. I moved to California and went to college at Univeristy of California, Irvine. After college, I immediately began law school and graduated in 2003 from California Western School of Law in San Diego, CA. While in law school, I focused heavily on my trial advocacy skills. I worked at both the San Diego Public Defender's office and the San Diego District Attorney's office. Before graduating law school, I tried two misdemeanor jury trials under the third year practice act.
After graduating, I moved to Las Vegas for me to start my legal career. I began working for a law firm called Springel and Fink where I immediatley learned how to take and defend depositions as well as mediate very large cases. I left Springel and Fink to get my trial feet wet and began working at the Clark Couty District Attorney's office. I tried a lot of felony jury trials from gang related cases to attempted murder and armed robbbery. I moved back to Atlanta in 2007.
When we moved to Atlanta, I began working for the Jackson County District Attorney's Office. I specialized in the prosecution of sex-related crimes, including child molestation, rape, and sexual exploitation of children. In 2009, I was approached by Epps and Pilgrim to join their team and to come out into private practice.
At Epps and Pilgrim, I primarily focused on family law cases. I specialized in divorce, modification of child custody and support, contempt, legitimation, as well as DFCS cases. I still keep my hands in the criminal practice, however, I primarily focused on the sex crimes cases. I practice in Gwinnett, Forsyth, Hall, Dawson, Jackson and Barrow Counties.
In October 2013, my partner Phil Pilgrim and I left Law Offices of Epps and Pilgrim and opened up Carter Pilgrim. Our office is located in Suwanee, Georgia and we offer services for criminal defense, family law, personal injury and business litigation cases. We look forward to helping you!
On January 1, 2022, Carter Pilgim merged with Banks Stubbs McFarland. We are so excited about our new team and are ready to help you with all of your legal needs. For more information about Amy's journey feel free to read personal bio on the Banks Stubbs website.

Amy and her team were amazing!
I highly recommend Amy Carter and her exceptional team. From our initial consultation, Amy demonstrated a profound understanding of my situation and instilled a sense of trust and confidence that she would advocate for my best interests throughout the process. Awesome Attorney
Amy did an excellent t job representing me in my divorce case. She was very easy to deal with and she made a hard experience easier because of her care and concern for me as her client. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a good divorce attorney. Cathy M.

Hired wrong person
My Spouse is a high conflict person. Amy was bad choice as Attorney for me. She was almost impossible to reach and did not seem to care about issues. Divorce finalized without great results. Wish I hired someone else.

Overwhelmed
Unfortunately I was going through a rough divorce in the summer of 2019 and a trying child custody hearing. Ms Carter laid out the case before me and explained how it would go. After that she seemed overwhelmed and extremely unresponsive to any of my calls or requests. To me she was outmatched by the...

Outstanding Attorney
I have recommended Amy to quite a few people and they have all hired her. My case was fairly easy, well as easy as a divorce could be. She walked me through it and was fair to both sides. My sisters case was not easy at all and I saw a different side of her. I saw Amy fight for my sister and her chil...
"I highly recommend Amy for any type of family law case. She zealously represented her client in a professional manner and was always focused on what was best for her client (not how she could make the most from the case)."
"I have litigated several cases with Amy. She is smart, sensible, always prepared, but most importantly, she will not back away from a fight. Her energy and professionalism serve her clients well. She has my highest endorsement."
"Amy is an excellent attorney with several years of experience under her belt. Her knowledge of the law, local courtroom procedure, and judges preferences is invaluable."
"I endorse this lawyer. I have worked with Amy on a large medical malpractice case before and her knowledge and abilities are superb. Very dedicated lawyer."
"Amy Carter is an outstanding attorney with the kind of background and experience people need in their lawyer. Amy is personable, smart and tough. Her experience as a prosecutor gives Amy valuable insider knowledge and understanding of how criminal courts work and she is able to use this special knowledge to help her clients. If you need legal help in the Gwinnett County Area you should call Amy Carter."
"I have known Amy since she was a prosecutor. She commands attention in the courtroom, and will work hard to win her case. Now that she is in private practice, she will be an asset to anyone that hires her."
"I am a former co-worker of Amy's and have worked with her as opposing counsel on cases since then. Amy is a zealous advocate for her clients and is wonderful in the courtroom. She has vast litigation experience on a variety of types of cases, including criminal, family law, and personal injury matters."
"Whether your issues are domestic, personal injury, or criminal; Amy is an invaluable resource for all of your legal needs. She has worked in the large firm environment, the DA's office as a special victims prosecutor, and in the small firm environment which gives her special insight into all types of opposing counsel. I would not hesitate to call Amy if I had a need for her services."
"If you have been falsely charged with a crime against a special victim, Amy Carter is one of the few lawyers who can help you. She has more experience with the special victims than most of the lawyers twice her age. She always fights for her clients"
