Freddy is an attorney licensed to practice in the State of South Carolina. Freddy completed his undergraduate degree in Political Science with a Minor in International Business, graduating from the University of South Carolina in 1991. He did postgraduate work in the MBA program at The University of South Carolina in 1992. Freddy moved to Washington, D.C. in 1992 where he earned a Juris Doctor (J.D.) law degree from Howard University School of Law in 1995. While at HU Law, Freddy was honored as a member of the social justice law review and was a CBCF Fellow in the United States Congress, House of Representatives for Congressman James E. "Jim" Clyburn (D-SC, formerly Majority Whip). After law school, Freddy was selected as a law clerk for The Honorable Donald W. Beatty, (currently, Chief Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court).
After graduating law school and completing his clerkship, Freddy became an associate attorney at the law firm of Lowery, Thompson and King, handling criminal defense (including Murder, DUI, state and federal drug and criminal cases), family court and personal injury litigation (including catastrophic injuries, medical negligence and auto accident cases). In 1997, Freddy co-founded the firm of Konohia and Woods and later established his own practice, The Woods Law Firm. The Woods Law Firm has grown and expanded to include five total offices (3 South Carolina offices and also 2 South Carolina personal injury offices known as Snow & Woods, Attorneys At Law).
Freddy has gained a reputation as a skilled and aggressive trial attorney handling cases in the areas of criminal defense and personal injury with a particular affinity for DUI and Drug cases on the criminal side and complex civil litigation and big car and truck accidents on the personal injury side. Freddy has been a guest lecturer and panelist for colleges and universities, law schools and the media, appearing multiple times on radio, TV, the news and internet based media on topics related to DUI, criminal defense and criminal justice reform. He accepts cases and clients in all 46 counties in the State of South Carolina, and spends considerable time in courts in the metropolitan cities of Greenville, Columbia, Rock Hill, Beaufort, Charleston and Myrtle Beach as well as in small towns and cities across the state.
Freddy believes it is his duty as a lawyer to help people who are faced with challenging legal problems and also help improve the community. Freddy is a founding member of the American Freedom and Justice Project and represents juveniles pro bono in some cases to help the youth free themselves from the stigma of the criminal justice system. Freddy has served on several community boards and commissions and most recently served as an executive board member on the board of the Greenville County Redevelopment Authority. Among other awards Freddy was selected as a top 100 trial lawyer in SC in his field by the National Trial Lawyers from 2013-2020. Most recently, in 2015, Freddy was selected as James Clyburn Political Fellow in South Carolina. Freddy is also active with his church and enjoys sportfishing, traveling extensively and outdoor sports with his family and friends when he is not in court fighting to win justice for his clients and their families.

I had the privilege of of attending the Harvard University Summer Sessions of the National College for DUI Defense with Fred Woods. Fred brought a professionalism and fire to our courses, and has an amazing courtroom presence that he displayed during mock trial exercises and small group workshops. Mr. Woods' ability to bring such a tremendous courtroom presence to bear in the the "artificial" environment of a mock trial setting was really quite an inspiring pleasure to watch. If you're seeking trial counsel you will do no better. We also had the chance to share tales of our business interests and Mr. Woods brings a varied and successful entrepreneurial commercial background to the table. Clients benefit from his breadth in the business world, and opposing counsel and parties either sit and take notice or proceed at their peril. I'm please to unhesitatingly recommend Mr. Woods, and am happy to offer further insight at any time.
