From the attorney's website:
My name is Jeff Schreiber. Family Law is all I do, and I’d like to be your attorney.
On any given evening or weekend, you will likely find me in and around Summerville — coaching tee-ball in the springtime, walking with my wife and two kids through Hutchinson Square on Third Thursday, or buying produce at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday. I love it here, and I consider Summerville to be the gem of the Lowcountry.
That being said, I have had success in the courts in Charleston County, Berkeley County and Dorchester County, and I cannot say that I prefer any one of the three. Similarly, I enjoy helping clients from all across the Lowcountry as well. While I am not lucky enough to be a native of the Palmetto State, having lived most recently in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area really makes me appreciate just how wonderful it is to live here, between the scenery, the opportunity, and the phenomenal people.
The road to opening my own law practice here at Lowcountry Divorce & Family Law in Summerville, South Carolina was a long and circuitous one, spanning more than a dozen years and three different states.
After growing up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, I attended Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. From there, I worked as a News Reporter in the Upstate, covering everything from ribbon-cuttings to murder investigations for the Seneca Daily Journal and Clemson Daily Messenger. After that, I moved back up to the Philadelphia-area, where I spent eight years working as a News Reporter for Courthouse News Service, Inc., a California-based legal wire service. That was also where I met my wife, a Registered Nurse.
It was while working for Courthouse News, spending my days rooting through litigation records for hundreds of thousands of cases in state and federal courts, that I caught the legal bug. At around that same time, my wife and I began visiting my father, who lives on Isle of Palms here in the Lowcountry, and became determined to relocate following my graduation.
I received my Juris Doctor from Rutgers University School of Law in tropical Camden, New Jersey, nearly ten years to the day after receiving my undergraduate degree from Auburn. Within days, we finally relocated, moving from the suburbs of Philadelphia to right here in Summerville, where my wife and I still reside with our two young children and hyperactive dog. It still remains as the best decision we ever made.
After relocating from the Keystone State to the Palmetto State, I worked as a paralegal and then as an Associate Attorney for Anthony and Allison LaMantia at The LaMantia Law Firm, LLC in downtown Charleston. Anthony and Allison are two of the finest attorneys in the area, and I was extremely fortunate to be able to learn from both of them.
Finally, I realized the dream of opening my own practice. Lowcountry Divorce & Family Law allows me to provide the personal service that folks going through divorces and other aspects of family and domestic litigation deserve. It allows me to have my hands in every aspect of every case, so that I know my clients’ stories and goals as well as they do.
I practice only family law because I love it. I am a child of divorce who is now happily married, so I know and have seen firsthand both marital discord and bliss. I have also been the child stuck in the middle, traveling around the country following numerous parental relocations; in that, I know what children in a divorce are experiencing — I also know the value of stability, and the peace that it can bring to a child otherwise torn between two houses. In my practice, I enjoy watching spouses grow stronger, kids start smiling again, and parents move on as best possible to that next chapter in their lives.
Please call me so that we may sit down and talk about your case. It would be my pleasure to help you in any way that I can. As I said — family law is all I do, and I’d like to be your new attorney.

Best lawyer you can find
Jeff is one of the best lawyers in the Summerville area. I had what should have been a very simple divorce but due to how difficult my ex decided to be it turned out to be tremendously complicated. Jeff has been so wonderful throughout the whole process. He is very responsive and witty in his ema...

At ease
After my first meeting with Jeff I was confident that all of my issues were going to be handled, that all of my questions would be answered, all of my worries washed away and that I had found a great attorney. Any time I had a question or concern, I knew Jeff would get me an answer in a timely manor....

Great Lawyer
Jeff represented me in a divorce and custody case. He did an excellent job from start to finish. He was one step ahead of the opposing counsel at every turn and was very knowledgeable of the workings of the court. In the event that I should ever need him again, there is no doubt that I would hire Je...

careful who he knows
I referred my mother to him based on these reviews. She is currently in a custody battle with her ex over my younger half brother and sister. She blew $200 today at the initial consultation only to be told that he is acquaintances with her ex's lawyer and didn't want to go up against her in court. If...
I recall meeting with this person for a consultation. Justifiable or not, her frustration—with me or with anyone else, for that matter—is her right. Still, it provides an opportunity to review the consultation process. During a consultation, I try to get a feel for the facts, for the characters (parties and lawyers alike), and for the issues involved, as well as the potential client’s goals. From there, I do three things: (1) I explain how law and judicial tendencies may likely treat those facts and circumstances; (2) I discuss how I would attempt to achieve reasonable goals; and (3) based upon an assessment of facts and characters and the challenges presented because of both, I provide my quote for what retainer I would feel comfortable charging. If the prospective client does not feel comfortable with my approach or my quoted fees, I happily refer them to trusted colleagues who would likely either take a different approach or quote a lesser retainer. Family law is intensely personal; an attorney-client relationship should never be forced. Finally, I do charge $200 for a consultation, and I do so because all I have to offer is my time, and there is only so much time in a given day. In this matter, without discussing specifics of the case, I stayed at the office well after 5:00 p.m.; the time I devoted to the consultation could have been otherwise devoted to paid work on active cases or spending time with my wife and children. I do indeed know the attorney on the other side, but as a twice-elected officer on the board of directors of the Dorchester County Bar Association and a generally well-thought-of member of a small community of family law attorneys in the tri-county area, I am acquainted with just about everyone. Under no circumstances would I shy away from engaging in litigation with this talented and honest attorney, or any other attorney for that matter, but in past experience litigation with this particular attorney proved costly due to differences in style and practice. For that reason, I quoted a retainer that the prospective client felt was too expensive (despite being fairly standard for the market, and less than I was thinking while assessing facts and challenges) and, as is my practice in such situations, I referred her to trusted colleagues that would likely quote a lesser retainer. I wish that I could offer my time for free, but I cannot, just as many non-attorneys would only work overtime for so long if they knew they’d never get paid for their time. I likewise wish that I could undercut my retainer, but I don’t believe it is fair to quote a small retainer on a matter for the purpose of bringing in new clients knowing that the case will be complicated and will inevitably require extensive costs down the line. This particular person’s disappointment is regrettable, for sure, but I will not sugar-coat the costs and challenges of domestic litigation just to bring in new clients. As with everyone I meet, I wish her only the best.
