Attorney Shawndria McCoy is a native of Elizabeth City, North Carolina. She graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in 2002, having served as a member of Kappa Omicron Nu National Honor Society. Shawndria began her legal career briefly as a Deputy Law Clerk with the United States Tax Court in Washington, D.C. in the Records and Reproduction Section in 2006. Deciding she did not particularly enjoy the “big city” life, but wanting to continue in the legal field, she decided to attend Norfolk State University’s Paralegal program. Subsequently, in that same year, she became employed as a Paralegal at the Twiford Law Firm, P.C. in Moyock, North Carolina, under the direction of Senior Partners John S. Morrison and Courtney S. Hull. In this position, she had the opportunity to work in the areas of civil litigation, personal injury, local government, and social security law.
Desiring further instruction and knowledge in paralegal studies, Shawndria later enrolled in the Meredith College Paralegal Program in Raleigh, North Carolina and graduated in May 2009. She obtained her Paralegal Certification from the National Association of Legal Assistants in 2009. While working on her Paralegal Certification, she was employed by the North Carolina Court of Appeals in the Office of Staff Counsel providing support to ten attorneys.
Shortly before graduating from Meredith College, Shawndria was accepted into North Carolina Central University School of Law. Shawndria graduated in May 2012 with a Juris Doctor degree. Shawndria founded the Law Firm of Shawndria McCoy, PLLC in 2014 in Raleigh and is licensed to practice in all North Carolina state courts.
