Girum Tesfaye is the founding partner for Tesfaye | Amare, PLLC, where he represents clients in a wide range of complex Immigration and family law cases.
The focus of his practice is defending individuals in removal (deportation) proceedings, asylum applications and appeals as well as various motions and applications before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. He handles a variety of family law matters in Virginia, including divorce, child custody and visitation and child support. He has represented clients in both state and federal courts and has successfully litigated complex matters including Habeas Corpus Petitions, Motions to Vacate/Set Aside, judicial review of Removal Orders and Immigration Detention, Motions to Suppress, and various immigration matters before the Board of Immigration Appeals. His experience and strong background in litigation and trial practice have led to success in Virginia’s district and circuit courts on family law and criminal matters with immigration consequences.
Girum spent five years assisting federal regulatory agencies including the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) investigate and prosecute violations of federal futures and options market regulations and securities laws. He briefly spent time in private practice as an associate attorney in a Northern Virginia law firm representing clients with family law and immigration issues before founding a successful small immigration and family law firm in Alexandria, VA.
Girum has commented on legal matters in the Washington Post and has been featured in the National Trial Lawyers “Top 40 Under 40 in Virginia” profiles for Immigration Law and Litigation. He as also been featured as one of the best litigation attorneys in Virginia by the American Institute of Legal Counsel and has participated in advanced training for litigation and trial practice.
