Mr. Simms was referred to me from a family friend. I called him with what I deemed an emergency situation, and within an hour of the phone call, we had an appointment to meet. I had a malicious wound and abduction by force and intimidation as charges in Arlington Va. These charges carried a total of 30 years, even though the malicious wound was dropped at the last minute, I went for a trial for the abduction charge which carried a 10-year sentence. Mr. Simms said he would... be fighting for me out there, and boy did he fight for me. I had a judge who had a rope ready for me, a prosecutor with bad faith who wanted a conviction by any means necessary. I was in deep trouble. I knew I had a good lawyer at the opening statement, he came in with a bang, the prosecution was outclassed at the get go (and the state had its best prosecutor out there). During the trial process, Mr. Simms would look at a law, study and pinpoint all the discrepancies in a lightning speed. He knew the entire process, he did not need a book, or look things up, it was all in the brain. His interventions were so that objections from the prosecution were kept at a minimum. Again experience with the process and Intelligence. During cross examination of the witnesses I was wondering why is he asking all the questions and not doing anything with the answers? Well, it was saving the best for last. He brought all those answers to the closing arguments the next day and started tearing apart the accusation, the police, the state, and I Loved the way he looked at the partial judge when he was dismissing his eloquent arguments with a backhand - starring him right in the eyes, no backing down, no fear - Fighting for me. The result, a lightning 45-minutes verdict, a total of four points in one charge and I was found - NOT GUILTY- I didn't just get my money's worth, I got my life's worth, my children life, my family life. Being a key person in my family, a Guilty verdict would have been devastating to so many people. Instead, I am today in a position of force. Even if I had lost, I would not have regretted choosing Mr. Simms, because not only he was highly knowledgeable and smart, but he gave it his best shot, he fought very hard for me, and that's all any accused person can ask of his lawyer.
