Abbe L. Reis has focused her entire legal career on the area of family law. She has been involved in all aspects of family law, including divorce, custody and visitation issues, relocation, equitable distribution of property, child and spousal support, prenuptial agreements, post separation agreements, and domestic violence matters. Ms. Reis' approach is to confront the challenges her clients face with compassion and honesty, always trying to minimize both the financial and emotional costs her clients are facing.
Ms. Reis practices in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Courts and the Circuit Courts of Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Prince William County, Arlington County, Falls Church City and Alexandria City.
Ms. Reis is an active member of the Virginia State Bar (Family Law Section); the Fairfax Bar Association (Family Law Section, Alternative Dispute Resolution Section, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court Committee, Circuit Court Committee and Domestic Relations Subcommitee, Pro Bono Subcommittee); and the Virginia Women's Attorney Association. She has been appointed as a Conciliator for the 19th Judicial Circuit.
Ms. Reis earned her law degree from George Mason University School of Law, where she was an active member of the George Mason American Inn of Court. During her final year of law school, Ms. Reis practiced in family law under the Virginia Supreme Court’s third year practice rule. Upon graduation, Ms. Reis was the recipient of the Family Law Book Award, conferred by the Family Law Section of the Virginia State Bar and the Virginia Chapter of the AmericanAcademy of Matrimonial Lawyers to the graduating student showing the most promise in family law. Prior to opening The Law Office of Abbe L. Reis, Ms. Reis was an associate attorney at The Havrilak Law Firm and Reese Law Office, and was a law clerk for the family law firms of Craig and Hirsch (currently Hirsch & Elhenberger), William B. Reichhardt and Associates, and Colten, Cummins, Watson and Vincent.
Ms. Reis is also a marriage officiant and performs ceremonies in English and Spanish.
Ms. Reis is fluent in Spanish and has lived and/or worked in Spain, Mexico and throughout Central America.
