I've had great training in law school and in my early years working at top national law firms, and since then enjoyed decades of experience in the fields in which I now focus. At this time in my practice I find myself reflecting on a great story told to me by an older friend years ago, the punchline to which was "At my age I need the points more than the fame or the money." That's the way I feel, though I'm not in a position to give away services.

I regularly decline cases where I don't think I can make a cost-effective difference. When I accept a matter, I endeavor to help my client understand what is happening and why, and what is likely to follow so that he or she understands the risks and opportunities in a legal situation and are in a position to deliberately participate in the resolution of their problem. My favorite kind of client is a hands-on realist, sleeves rolled up, and ready to work with me to make good things happen.

 My concern these days is that I do my job efficiently and as flawlessly as possible." "Efficiency" means without undue cost or wheel spinning, while "flawlessness" is an ideal that I recognize we humans often don't reach but which, by striving for, we can get close to.
