L. Anthony Bompiani

I selected Mr. Bompiani to handle my divorce based on the positive ratings that were posted here on AVVO, which do not reflect the actual quality of services that he provides. I retained him at the end of January and since our initial consultation, he has been minimally invested in my case. Shortly a...fter retaining him, I sent him an email containing details and questions about my case. It was evident that he did not take the time to review this information, as he asked for it later. On the rare occasion that he did respond to my questions, he provided very brief, indirect responses. Mr. Bompiani also did not complete tasks in a timely manner, if at all. He indicated that he would be sending me a form to sign and return to his office, but I did not receive it until nearly two weeks later. I asked him to keep me informed of any actions that had been taken, but he never contacted me. Although he claimed to have sent a letter to my spouse's attorney to indicate that he would be representing me, I received a letter from my spouse's attorney a month after retaining Mr. Bompiani indicating that he had received no such letter. Mr. Bompiani did not have the decency to apologize, even though his negligence undoubtedly made me look uncooperative and irresponsible to my spouse's attorney. Mr. Bompiani's staff is also essentially useless. Each time that I called his office, I spoke to a different receptionist, each of whom would inform me after asking who I was and putting me on hold that Mr. Bompiani was in court. I imagine that they would have his schedule and know prior to putting a client on hold whether he was in the office. I also asked to speak to his assistant multiple times, but was repeatedly told that she was unavailable. I never had any of my calls returned. After receiving the letter from my spouse's attorney, I attempted to reach Mr. Bompiani for two days to express my dissatisfaction and to request that my retainer be refunded. Mr. Bompiani eventually sent me an email stating that I could expect to receive a refund check by the end of the week, but I did not receive it until almost 2 weeks later. He offered to do a PayPal transfer when I questioned whether the refund had been issued. What kind of attorney accepts payments or provides refunds via PayPal?! And why would he offer to issue payment via PayPal if a check had actually been issued? I informed Mr. Bompiani that I would not accept the refund via PayPal and wanted confirmation that I would be receiving the refund via check, to which I received no response. When I texted him to question him about this, he texted back defensively for several minutes, but failed to offer an explanation for his lack of response. Ironically, this was the most responsive that he had ever been since I became "his client." I am at a loss for how he has managed to obtain such glowing ratings. Divorce is a traumatic life event, and he seems to have lost sight of what it is to be an honest, compassionate human being. He was quick to take money for services that he failed to provide. The fact that he had sufficient time to post on Twitter, Instagram, and other social media outlets on a regular basis added insult to injury. If you are seeking a responsive attorney to handle your divorce or any legal matter, I strongly advise against hiring Mr. Bompiani. Judging by other reviews that are listed here, I wonder if I would have received more attention if I had committed a heinous crime. It appears that he only devotes his attention to cases that will make him look good, especially when he was running for District Judge at the time of my divorce. In a post from Pittsburgh Post Gazette, he stated that the new District Judge would "need to show a great deal of commitment and responsibility, fundamentals that are a cornerstone of his law practice." Based on his "handling" of my case, I beg to differ.
