After someone else's carelessness left me with broken facial bones, blurred vision, facial scars and severe pain for over a year from a rear end collision, I had slipped into a depression and PTSD, almost accepting an insurance offer that was ridiculously low because I was told that's all I was worth.... Their representative got me to sign medical releases the very next day after the accident while heavily medicated for horrible pain and gained access to my entire medical history, even trying to use it against me. My kids urged me to see an attorney before accepting the settlement, and a friend recommended Scott to me. I had figured that after a lawyer took his third plus expenses, I'd be left with practically nothing so I was wasting my time. I had accepted pain and defeat, with the insurance's words of "Don't hire an attorney, it's not worth it, you won't get a better settlement" in my ears. Scott's paralegal, Jan, instantly saw that I was an emotional wreck, still in pain and immediately called Scott who quickly took time out to come see me. He didn't want to talk money or fees. They both insisted that I seek out counseling as I was practically in tears sitting in the office, to look into the reason for the continued horrible pains in my neck and arms, and put my emotional/medical needs first. Jan gave me the names of psychologists, doctors and therapists and insisted I get further treatment. When I asked about fees, Scott brushed it off saying that my health was more important, he could see I wasn't in any condition to deal with insurance companies and if it made me feel better, he'd see to it I'd at least get whatever she offered no matter what. He put MY needs first. My son who was with me encouraged me to hire Scott and 4 months later, I am so very grateful I did. I'm in therapy for my depression and PTSD, I'm being treated for neck injuries, whiplash and disc ruptures; traumatic glaucoma I never knew I had, and despite severe financial strains on the family leaving us months behind in the mortgage and bills and a special needs child and grandchild to care for, I see a light at the end of the tunnel. Jan has followed me closely during my treatments, kept a watch over me. Scott and Jan saw me as a woman in pain, not a person wanting a settlement. They put me first. Imagine that, a lawyer who treats you as a human being, not a client, seeing to your needs first then ready to fight hard for you. That's the sign of a true champion.
