Rona offered a free consult for my complex custody case (non-custodial dad is in another state and I am in NY with our daughter). Though probably all custody and visitation motions are stressful, this was particularly delicate because of the non-custodial dad's prior record with drugs and alcohol, D...V and emotional abuse. Rona guided me through how to move the case's jurisdiction here to NY and how to file motions and do whatever leg work I could on my own to save time and money. This is a case that was on-going since my daughter was born 10 years prior, so you can imagine the exhaustion, frustration and depletion of resources I have endured. Rona graciously gave honest and free consult and did not take a fee or retainer until the time absolutely necessary for her to get involved. This took about a year and half and three separate consults for me to move the case from the other state. Having had to hire two other attorneys for separate motions in another state, who took advantage, and being a child of judges and lawyers, I know the difference between those who are honestly trying to do what they can for their clients' best outcome and those who are just there for the money. Rona sincerely worked for my daughter's best outcome and mine. She does this with what I believe is the understanding that comes from being a good attorney, but also having been on the client's side of the desk, sharing her own wisdom about her own dissolution and custody challenges. I think the latter characteristic makes all the difference in her empathy and approach. When it was time to create an agreement and pay a fee, Rona and her staff continued to bill fairly and saw my case through to its natural end, NOT padding my bill or adding unnecessary steps along the way. More attorneys should emulate the same behavior.
