Michael Dreishpoon

I was arrested in the summer of 2010 for getting into a fist fight. After doing my due diligence and getting some outrageous quotes from lawyers clearly looking to milk my case and take it to trial, I decided to go with Mike for a couple of reasons. First during the consultation and all through my ca...se, Mike was a straight shooter and never wavered from telling it like it was. I also liked that Mike was a public defender in Queens and had solid experience with the judges there and knew the DAs. Public defenders also get a lot of case experience, making them valuable counsel. Mike's advice was spot on and although I had to come to court a couple of times, he was able to get my charges reduced to a violation with no fines. I was charged in a domestic violence case although I am actually the victim. Mr. Dreishpoon helped me get an ACD (Adjourment in contemplation of dismissal) without a trial. However, he is not the first attorney I hired on the case. While the other attorneys I interviewed all tried to tell me it i...s to my best interest to avoid a trial by working out a deal with the DA in a domestic violence case, he is the only one who encouraged me to fight if I believe I am innocent. Not having much confidence in the system and in the fear of going to jail if I lose the case in a trial, I took the advice of these other attorneys in the beginning hoping that they can convince the DA I don't deserve the charges. Unfortunately, the DA would rather believe in the lies of my ex-girlfriend and would not offer to let all the charges go. Eventually, I decided to face the trial because my conscience told me I would regret for the rest of my life if I admitted to something I did not do while the truth is in fact the other way around. I went back to Mr. Dreishpoon and asked him to help me. Once I made up my mind and the trial was scheduled, my ex-girlfriend started to make all kinds of excuse not to come to the trial despite that she had such a hard stance in the beginning. After the trial was postponed a couple times, the DA offered ACD with 6 months of limited order protection. Mr. Dreishpoon told me the only difference between an ACD and a trial dismissal is the 6 months waiting period and advised me to take it. Since I probably won't see my ex-girlfriend for the rest of my life after all she did to me, I took the offer for the peace of mind.

In July of 2009, my ex-girlfriend falsely accused me of stealing money from her checking account and threatening her via e-mails and text messages. I told the detectives that she was lying, but they didn't care what I had to say and arrested me on Petit Larceny and Aggravated Harassment charges. I ...hired Michael Dreishpoon to represent me on both cases. Michael worked hard and eventually convinced the district attorney to offer a plea bargain deal wherein the cases would be dismissed and sealed in 6 months if I stayed out of trouble. As part of the deal, my ex-girlfriend would have an order of protection against me for those 6 months. Rather than telling me to take the deal so that he could move on to the next case, Michael advised me to reject it and see if he could convince the judge to dismiss the cases by submitting a motion. I wasn't thrilled about having to go back to court a bunch more times, but I didn't like the sound of an order of protection hanging over my head for 6 months, so I agreed to take his advice and roll the dice. After a few more court dates, Michael got both cases dismissed! I would recommend Michael to anyone that needs a lawyer. He's bright, honest, courteous, always available via phone, text or e-mail and knows his way around the courthouse. I've dealt with other attorneys in the past on business transactions and some of them left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm happy to say that Michael does not fall into that category.
