Consultation with Former Judge David Kwangsoo Kim

I paid $500 for a one-hour consultation with former judge David Kwangsoo Kim regarding my immigration case. I sent all of my case documents in advance, but during the consultation, it felt like he had not reviewed or understood my materials at all. There was no sign of preparation. Because of his... background as a former judge, I expected deeper insight and a different perspective than what typical immigration attorneys provide. However, the consultation was very superficial, with little practical strategy or concrete guidance. In fact, it felt less helpful than consultations I’ve had with immigration attorneys who charge $100–$150 per hour. In particular, his understanding of current immigration practice and practical, hands-on experience seemed quite limited. Most of the consultation focused on negative statements like “it will be difficult” or “it may not work,” without offering realistic options or strategic direction. Overall, the value did not justify the cost. After the session, I shared my concerns about the lack of substance for a $500/hour consultation. I was told that his usual rate is $1,000 per hour and that $500 was a “discount.” However, regardless of the stated rate, the level of preparation, depth of analysis, and practical expertise did not feel appropriate for such a high fee. I went in expecting meaningful insight because of his former judge title, but the experience was disappointing.

“Hardship Waiver”

My wife was in danger of being discovered and/or even deported under the previous administration, even though she had lived in the US and paid taxes for many years. The walls seemed to be closing in. Mr Kim explained to us that he had successfully helped process such difficult cases before, (some m...ore complex and more urgent than hers), and he felt confident he could help us if we followed his instructions. There was no way to fix her situation except through a 601a Hardship Waiver, he explained, which very few people had even heard of. It was a lot of work, and required a lot of attention to detail over a couple of years, resulting in obtaining Permanent Residency. Recently, after 3 more years, my wife obtained US Citizenship! So we are extremely grateful to Mr Kim and his team for all their work and diligence in keeping everything on track. He was always available and responsive, even though there were lengthy waiting periods between applications. He assured us everything was on track. My wife and I highly recommend Mr Kim and his team for all immigration issues, especially those that seem difficult or hopeless. Just make sure you follow his instructions to the letter, which maximizes your chances of success. He covers all the bases, - which is necessary, - because you’ll be surprised by how many mistakes the USCIS makes. Thank you Mr Kim, for keeping our family together!

Green card approval

David Kim and his staff are knowledgeable, resourceful, honest, friendly and responsive, all of which are hard to come by at an immigration law office. I am an attorney myself, and we found his office through a referral made by a colleague of mine. The colleague described David Kim as an attorney who... will fight for his clients and is not afraid to speak up in and out of court. This definitely held to be true as he fought viciously for us. Before choosing David Kim’s law office to represent us, we still had done our due diligence and paid consultation fees to at least two to three other law offices. We ultimately chose David Kim because, unlike many immigration attorneys, he was very knowledgeable about the current immigration law and policy and was very honest and open with us regarding what our expectations should be throughout the whole process. Our case had a slight wrinkle that made it difficult for us to predict the outcome of our case. Other immigration attorneys described our case as unusual and difficult, but David Kim was eager to take on the challenge and said he would try his best, which he did. On top of that, immigration made a mistake that put our whole case into jeopardy. Despite these major hiccups, David Kim used his resources to make sure that the mistake was reversed and got our case back on track, eventually giving us the best outcome (approval for a green card). As many would know, it is difficult to fix a wrong. While other immigration attorneys would have suggested to refile and start all over, David Kim was adamant on getting our case sorted out with immigration within a matter of two weeks. He ultimately saved us money and time. Without hesitation, I will take on any future immigration cases to him and also would make referrals to him to anyone who needs immigration help.
