Consultation with Former Judge David Kwangsoo Kim

I paid $500 for a one-hour consultation with former judge David Kwangsoo Kim regarding my immigration case. I sent all of my case documents in advance, but during the consultation, it felt like he had not reviewed or understood my materials at all. There was no sign of preparation. Because of his... background as a former judge, I expected deeper insight and a different perspective than what typical immigration attorneys provide. However, the consultation was very superficial, with little practical strategy or concrete guidance. In fact, it felt less helpful than consultations I’ve had with immigration attorneys who charge $100–$150 per hour. In particular, his understanding of current immigration practice and practical, hands-on experience seemed quite limited. Most of the consultation focused on negative statements like “it will be difficult” or “it may not work,” without offering realistic options or strategic direction. Overall, the value did not justify the cost. After the session, I shared my concerns about the lack of substance for a $500/hour consultation. I was told that his usual rate is $1,000 per hour and that $500 was a “discount.” However, regardless of the stated rate, the level of preparation, depth of analysis, and practical expertise did not feel appropriate for such a high fee. I went in expecting meaningful insight because of his former judge title, but the experience was disappointing.

excellent laywer

Great lawyer and team. He is always knowledgeable and responsive. He analyzed my case in all scenarios. And see what we can do and what cannot do for each situation. He answered all my questions and concerns very professionally. Definitely recommend David Kim!

Nightmare

It was horrible to work with David last summer. My case was tough and urgent. I had to wait two weeks to get his feedback after I paid money , signed the contract and provided all documents and statements he might use. During that two weeks, I couldn't sleep or eat but waited, prayed and hoped he wou...ld respond me faster. He was not a fast email responder. I don't know how he dealt with feedbacks either from me or from USCIS. Or there was not effective communications between us which made me feel like he ignored my suggestions. (Nunc Pro Tunc request needs four requirements. He didn't provide all to meet the requirements twice, even we received REF). It took a while to make him trust me that we have to do so. But it was too late. His unwillingness to change any word misled my employer lawyer and incomplete files were sent out before he was willing to make any change. It turned out that the outcome was not good which got me in a really really bad situation. Every time, when I had to look back that time, it was a nightmare to me. I thought he would be my angel who can save me from marshy situation in that dark moment, who can present me to explain. However, he was not that angel at all. I would not have blamed him if he can make more efforts on my case. I would not have complained if he can take actions faster. I would not have questioned him if he can be more humble and patient, if he can be more open to my suggestions. I know it takes a lot to become a lawyer. I know you must be an angel to other people. I guess that the outcome might be the same if I hired another lawyer. But this doesn't mean that all I put here is meaningless.

I'm sorry you feel that way, but I was never slow in responding to your emails. And what you requested me to do (use specific words) was both unnecessary and irrelevant. I treated you the same way I treat all my clients to the best of my ability. I'm sorry things did not turn out to be the way you wanted, but nothing is guaranteed in life, especially when you try to revive a case that has already been denied. I wish you all the best though in the future.

Very knowledgeable attorney.

First of all, he is very knowledgeable, rational attorney. He was only explaining about the facts and truths over my case, not for the profits(I previously spent a lot of monies for $30K-$40K and ultimately wasted). If you have any kind of tough issue that related with immigration matters, call hi...m to make an appointment. You will probably get a better idea if you currently struggling with inexperienced lawyer or facing difficult litigation.
