I reached out to Yana with a question about the optimal ownership status of a house for tax filing purposes after a divorce. She asked clear questions that got to the heart of the matter and helped me see the way forward (which didn't require an attorney). However, when I do need to hire someone down the road, I will most certainly start with her.
If you are looking for a knowledgeable, highly professional and dedicated attorney specializing in Trusts and Estates, look no further. Yana Pechersky has all of those qualities and so much more. She is very personable and puts in effort and time to represent your best interests. I highly recommend her services.
I focus my legal practice on the areas of Estate Planning (including tax planning for US Citizens and Foreign Nationals), Probate and Estate Administration, and Elder Law (which encompasses Guardianship, Community and Nursing Home Medicaid Planning and Eligibility, and Special Needs Planning).
Â
The Elder Law component of my practice arose from a very personal experience, when a lonely elderly neighbor suddenly found himself in need of Home Care. He was unable to fully pay for the amount of care he needed; yet his income and resources exceeded Medicaid eligibility limits. He was a good man, worked hard his entire life, was a good citizen and paid his dues and his taxes. But at an elderly and fragile age, there was no one to help him with his daily tasks, such as dressing, washing, shopping for and preparing food.Â
Â
Helping my elderly neighbor with the process of gaining Medicaid coverage that would help him pay for a Home Care Aide was a rewarding and eye-opening experience, which prompted me to incorporate the area of Elder Law into my Estate Planning practice.
Â
My approach to each individual client is two-pronged. First and foremost, it includes an assessment of how to best establish financial and personal security for the client’s loved ones and how to ensure a smooth passage of assets to the next generation, while minimizing taxes (whether via a Will, a Trust or another estate planning vehicle). Equally as important is guidance in preparation for retirement and protection of assets in the event of a chronic or long-term illness.
Â
While being prepared is always best, some clients are unable to plan for the unexpected in a timely manner. I find it incredibly rewarding to help a client who has encountered the death of a loved one or who has suddenly become disabled.

An informed and family-oriented estate planning lawyer!
Yana listened to my concerns about how best to construct the last will and testment for my worldly estate and assets, especially considering the protection I wanted to afford to my children. She also considered that I didn't want them to experience division and bitterness over my worldly legacy once I was gone. Yana also listened to my concerns about my own healthcare and what I'd want my health proxies to do. She crafted documents that addressed all these concerns, and more that I hadn't even considered.

Upper Eastside Condominium Purchase
Very professional, knowledgeable, caring and kept us well informed throughout the purchase of our condominium. She walked us through every phase of the transaction and explained not only the technical terms, but also their legal ramifications. Yana always kept the clients best interest in mind. She made such a great impression at the closing that both the real estate and mortgage brokers requested her business card for future real estate transactions. To say the least, we were very happy with the services provided and would highly recommend Yana to anyone requiring an experienced attorney.
