Bankruptcy Attorney with a Heart

I am writing this review to let people know that such a good person, such a good bankruptcy attorney, exists. So much about Jay Simon I have never seen in anyone else: altruism, understanding, kindness, compassion and attentiveness all in one person. He is simply an amazing person. He really hel...ps people and goes beyond what I expected from a bankruptcy attorney. He is no ordinary attorney. When you are in his office, it is impossible to not feel like you are the most important person in the world. He took care of me throughout the bankruptcy process and I knew that he cared about how I felt, how things went and me personally. I don’t know what else to say. Mr. Simon was simply great. One of the most personable, professional, nicest, kindest, reassuring, caring people I have ever met. He treated me like a person, not just another client among many. He is very easy to talk to and explained everything. Mr. Simon made this process as smooth and stress free as possible. He put me at ease throughout the process of preparing my petition and going to the meeting. He returned emails, answered all of my calls, answered all of my many questions. He provided excellent service, even beyond what I expected. You can tell he doesn’t practice bankruptcy law to just make money for himself, but to help people. He really is that rare attorney with a heart. Before posting my review I read over the reviews of other Brooklyn Bankruptcy attorneys on here. All I can say is they might be good, but they can't be better than Mr. Simon! My recommendation is that you hire Jay Simon like I did. Mr. Simon helped me and he can help you too. You really won’t be sorry.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Great, upstanding guy. Very good at what he does. Personable, patient and attentive. He made filing for bankruptcy feel not so overwhelming. He took care of everything and made me feel at ease. From the very day I hired him he took the reins and started the process. I did not think it would be as eas...y as it was. He made sure of every detail and made sure I was well prepared the day of my hearing. I appreciate his services SO MUCH.

The Bankruptcy Whisperer!

I have a name for Mr. Simon: “The Bankruptcy Whisperer.” Jay Simon is different then I expected a bankruptcy attorney to be like. He is just pure magic as a human being. I was very scared and, unfortunately, my fear manifested itself in making me an, admittedly, difficult bankruptcy client! ... I made appointments and didn’t show up; I forgot needed documents that I was supposed to bring, I asked the same questions over and over again, called and sent numerous emails, didn’t understand the easily understandable etc. You get the idea. But instead of getting angry at me, Mr. Simon was patience personified. He was tolerant, even-tempered, considerate and indulgent to me. So easy to work with. He has great “desk side” manner. Jay has such compassion for his clients. He is a big-hearted, kind and generous person. He understood the situation I was in and my fear, and couldn’t have been nicer. Such a good person, so caring, so understanding. He literally doted on me. I felt like I was dealing with a family member. He is one of the nicest people I have ever met. Jay never got upset that I stood him up a few times without bothering to call. He explained everything to me over and over with a sweet smile. Never complained when I inundated him with emails. Never got annoyed that I called just to confirm information I know he had already told me orally and in writing. He spoke in plain English, not legalese. He pretty much held my hand through the entire case. Made complicated issues understandable. He made the entire process painless. Such a thoughtful person-his various instruction and wrap-up letters left nothing unexplained and to chance. He is so down-to-earth and real. The sweetest guy I’ve ever met. See, like I said, he truly is The Bankruptcy Whisperer. He will calmly guide you through your bankruptcy. Meeting and hiring him was truly a blessing. If kindness counted for anything, Mr. Simon would be a millionaire. I strongly recommend Jay Simon and encourage you to call him if you need a bankruptcy attorney.

The Bankruptcy "Saint"

If you look closely on Mr. Simon's desk you can see a stick pin from the movie "The Saint." If you saw that movie or the old TV show, Mr. Simon really is like the character - a saint who helps people in need. He is extreemely diligent, caring and nice. He is more interested in helping people solve... their money problems then in his getting paid. When have you ever met an attorney not interested in their payment first? I met with three other attorneys before I met with Mr. Simon, and they would barely speak to me without my paying them. Mr. Simon was the total opposite. Unlike the other attorneys who demanded their (higher) fees upfront, Mr. Simon allowed me to pay in installments that he did not rush or pressure me to pay. He was also very kind on the phone. Another attorney actually hung up on me when I first called him! Mr. Simon, on the other hand, spoke to me on numerous occasions and never rushed me off the phone. Instead he explained things, for free, before we even met once. Beyond money, he was just so much more personable and actually cared about me as a person--how I felt going through the processs. He treated me like a human being not just someone to add to his bank account. His assurances that I would be all right and his overall manner and words were extremely comforting. The other attorneys I met with pawned me off on their paralegals or were disinterested in talking to me and/or explaining anything until I paid them their fee. I was treated like I was just another customer and not an actual person. From our first phone conversation on Mr. Simon was nice and kind to me. he also answered my numerous emailed questions very rapidly--I got answers many times almost as soon as I sent my email! Then when I got to court I was amazed at how badly the other attorneys there prepared their client's petitions. One attorney made many mistakes and was smirking as the trustee admonished her and her client about the faulty petition. Even I, a non-bankruptcy professional, could see from the responses that she did a bad job. In fact, the trustee wouldn't even examine her next client until the attorney and client reviewed their petition to find the expected mistakes. The attorney acted like it was no big deal. Totalling unprofessional and I am sure the client paid her well to do a good job in representing her and not do a sh!t job and cause her problems. But this was not one isolated attorney. Almost all the attorneys at the hearings I sat through did less than stellar jobs. But when it came my turn, I had no problems. Mr. Simon did my petition perfectly and sent the trustee the required documents in advance, unlike a few of the other attorneys I saw. In fact the trustee complimented Mr. Simon on how thorough my petition was done. None of the 10-15 other attorneys received such a commendation from the bankruptcy trustee. Another thing, there was a lady there whose attorney didn't even bother to show up on time. This lady was both scared and angry at her attorney. Mr. Simon, of his own accord, tried to soothe her nerves and explain what was happening. As I was sitting next to this lady, I asked her what she paid? I was astonished to find out she was charged over $2,000! and her attorney could not be bothered to show up on time. Hmmm. She missed her turn and had to be called again before her attorney finally showed up almost an hour late. He also didn't bother to apologize to her for his lateness like he should have. I am sure this is all routine for the attorney, but it was not routine for this lady--she was scared about the whole thing and then for her attorney not to show up, you can just imagine. Mr. Simon had me meet him at his office 45 minutes in advance and walked me over to the court just so I would not have to worry about where I was going. He also explained what was going to happen and called me the day before to remind me. I am sure he could have put his time to other uses, but he cared enough about me to devote extra time to me. What a difference from the other attorn

Relationship: Fellow lawyer in community

"I endorse this lawyer. Why? When you have a question, he gives you an answer as if you were across his desk so you understand the law, your options, and the answer to your question. Sometimes on AVVO we see answers to questions that in essence just say to see an attorney which is ok..as that is the ultimate answer. But this attorney will go beyond and try and fully and completely and in my view accurately answer it. Is that not the type of attorney you want? I would hope so and for that reason I endorse him."
