Divorce Case

Mia was hired after consultation. Her representation of my divorce case was excellent. She was stern with her request and ensure follow-ups with the plaintiff's attorney to get the required documents and ensure that the case was moving along with minimal delays.

Mia and team were unbelievably responsive and attentive to my needs from inception to completion of the divorce process. Truly professional and empathetic throughout.

Mia should find a new career

I hired Mia Poppe to help me resolve a child custody case. She talks a good game and knows all the right buttons to push to sell her "advocacy"-unfortunately it soon became evident after you give the retainer to her that you are relegated to a bakery line, take a number wait your turn. She is, I came ...to find out a laughing stock in the world of matrimonial attorneys. She was never prepared in front of the judge, when questioning, cross examining, she would be flipping pages, losing her place, unable to maintain a flow of conversation etc. I would catch the judge looking out the window while she speaks,or at something on his desk, anywhere but at her. The level of incompetence was astounding. There was so much perjury on the part of my spouse on the witness stand and yet she barely acknowledged it. The weeks leading up to her disastrous rambling summation, she was unable to return a phone call or an email . I did not see her or speak to her until that fateful day where she waltzed into court late and had the audacity to say, "we can't unscramble eggs", that's her answer to cover her ineptitude, and poor skill set. The bottom line is, if you want your rights, if you want due diligence, if you want a strong advocate, this is not your attorney. The mess she left me with is still affecting my custody, almost 2 years later!

I have given this review much thought before posting a response, as both during my representation and post, I remain an advocate for all clients. As a matrimonial lawyer, and seasoned professional, I understand that "hurting people try to hurt people". The reviewer seems to be displeased with his / her spouse's perjury, on the stand (unfortunately, lies are a recurring part of divorces). The reviewer also seems to be displeased with the outcome....... in custody matters.... there are no winners, there is no victory, and the "family" unit is forever different. The custody of all divorced parents remains "affected" post divorce. The whole of this review is untrue and an attack by someone who apparently believed that parenting post a divorce would be easy. Although post divorce parenting is challenging, a new normal can be established to ensure the happiness of all children involved, even if and when the parents may not be pleased with the new parenting terms. I have a reputation for having a commanding voice, and have likely never "rambled" in my life, as words are my tools. Finally, the expression, "we can't unscramble eggs", is only applicable (and only used by me) when a client has consistently acted against his or her own legal, or custody interests, as no lawyer can completely erase or distract from the past behaviors of their clients. I hope this reviewer can move forward and quickly establish a healthy new normal with the custody arrangement that is in place, the time spent creating this unfair review could have been better spent on creating a happier life for the reviewer and their child(ren).

Highest level of excellence and professionalism

I must admit that it took me a while to write this review, because I wanted to make sure that I do not understate how pleased I am with how Mia Poppe and her firm represented me during my divorce. Divorces are challenging and painful and mine was no different. From day one Mia was open and honest a...bout how the procedure of my divorce would take place. She was very knowledgeable and experienced in working with the judges as well as the opposing attorney in assisting me in finalizing a very difficult and lengthy divorce proceeding. In addition to her professionalism she was also very kind and compassionate to my situation and genuinely concerned about me as an individual and not just a client. She was able to decipher the hostile environment that I was transitioning from and was supportive not only through my divorce but even afterwards. She even called to check on me just to see how I was "holding up" during times when she figured I just needed "a shoulder to cry on"! She is a great attorney that will fight hard for you and she pulls no punches. She is also very supportive. In addition, her office staff was always pleasant, approachable and reliable. Sarah Khan was the one that handled most of the paperwork for my case and she was wonderful to work with. Correspondence, telephone calls or any type of communication was handled timely and appropriately. I was not living in New York during the time of my divorce, however I was always timely advised and kept privy to any and all necessary information. I consider Mia as well as all of her staff, very dear friends. If you choose Mia Poppe as your attorney you won't be disappointed.

Client Friendly, Efficient Service

The Law Firm of Shaw and Associates, were excellent in completing my divorce matter. As complicated as it was, they were able to cost effectively complete the matter in record time (for NYC). Not only was service efficient, but the levels of professionalism and expertise exhibited throughout the pr...ocess were not only met but exceeded. My phone calls and emailed concerns were addressed promptly and completely. Divorce attorneys typically have negative stigma for high expenses and no or slow results. Not so with this law firm.
