Mia Poppe, Esq. is the managing partner of The Law Firm of Poppe & Associates, PLLC, a full-service matrimonial law firm with two New York locations; Midtown Manhattan and White Plains. A divorce and family attorney, Mia specializes in high net-worth divorce, abusive divorce, grey divorce, same-sex divorce, mediation, and litigation. She carries additional expertise in domestic and international child custody, abduction and wrongful retention, and the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act (UCCJEA).

Strategic Business and Financial Knowledge

Mia grew up in the heart of South Charleston. The granddaughter of a sharecropper, Mia was taught from a young age how to “make lemonade” from lemons and how to “dance in the rain”. People that knew Mia from her early years fondly call her a ‘Steel Magnolia’, a comparison that she accepts and embodies.

After graduating from the College of Charleston, Mia began her financial and banking career working for Citigroup in the San Francisco Bay area. For the next 22 years, she worked as a Senior Business Leader at Citigroup, G.E. Capital, and Bank of America. Her tenure with these organizations formed Mia's strengths in leadership and the ability to navigate even the most complex financial documents, and critical skills in matrimonial matters. Mia works with professional forensic accountants with her clients, but her knowledge of financial matters enables her to confidently respond to the financial aspects of divorce, especially in high-net-worth cases.
Mia Poppe’s Strategic Approach

Mia’s practice is dedicated to vigorous client-centered advocacy, with a focus on settling cases without the costly and bruising effects of a trial. Her strengths in math and finance enable Mia to draft and present compelling financial settlement agreements without undue delay. A mother of five children, Mia also understands the nuances involved in custody matters, such nuances frequently go undetected by many.

Her approach? Stay focused, be diligent and detailed and act with integrity. Empowered and committed, Mia Poppe is a strong-willed attorney but acts with a "cooler heads prevail" approach to minimize emotional and mental strain on her clients. Her goal is to walk the journey with each client to help them move forward and achieve their new happily ever after.

Life Outside the Courtroom

With five children and two dogs, Mia is always on the go, but she wouldn’t have it any other way. Family is a priority as are cherished friends and colleagues. An avid runner and serious yoga practitioner, she stays physically fit to remain mentally focused.
Mia is also an active member of the New York State Bar, the Brooklyn Bar Association, the Pro bono lawyers project, and the American Bar Association.

A member of the steering committee for Lincoln Center Kids, Mia helps bring the arts to young children in underserved communities. Like many, she believes that the arts are for all to enjoy and access to the arts should be afforded to all children living in the artistically rich, New York City. Mia regularly attends dinners, concerts, and theatrical productions at Lincoln Center. Mia is presently expanding her philanthropic endeavors to combat homelessness and disparity in education. Mia also donates to her alma mater, North Carolina University School of Law.
