Outstanding Attorney. I highly recommend.

James Fishman came highly recommended to me by a friend who had a wonderful, successful experience with him in a case against the same landlord (who was trying to rid the building of rent stabilized tenants). Before meeting with him, I was extremely stressed and did not think I (the little guy) wo...uld be able to fight this fight against the landlord (the big guy) after I received a notice advising me that the lease for my rent stabilized apartment would not be renewed. Within the first five minutes of meeting James, I knew I was in great hands. I could almost hear the Rocky theme song playing in my mind. Having James Fishman in your corner is good on a multiple of levels. In addition to his knowledge and expertise (to name a few of his many amazing professional qualities), his respectable, outstanding reputation speaks volumes. Suffice it to say he is known for being so amazing at doing what he does – the other side’s attorney will more than likely know who he is and that you have muscle on your side. I will not go into the details of the case, but I will say that everyone in his office was top notch – especially Reuben Fuller-Bennett. They both kept me informed every step of the way. They determined which supporting documentation I needed to obtain, and they worked with me to figure out next steps as to how to obtain it. Once it was all gathered, they sent a letter with hundreds of pages of the supporting documents. We did not receive a response for weeks, but I was assured by James and Reuben that this was just the easiest first step and not to worry. Sure enough – a few weeks later I received an email from James with the words “Good News” in the subject line. The landlord would be sending me a renewal lease. Thankfully we did not have to go to trial, but I know if we had that it would have been successful because of James and his team. Suffice it to say that James Fishman came highly recommended to me, and I now know why from my own firsthand experience. I will highly recommend him to those I know, and I highly recommend him to all reading this.

OUTSTANDING ATTORNEY

James Fishman is an outstanding attorney: his strong intellect, his in-depth knowledge of the law, his impressive lawyering skills, make him one of the most skilled attorneys in his field (New York City Tenant law) During my first (and only ) consultation with him, I very quickly became aware of h...is astute mind and his in depth knowledge of the relevant law. I had clearly found a professional who set high standards of excellence for himself, and who would negotiate vigorously on my behalf (I was highly anxious about a rent stabilization situation, and here he was, a rock....) Having explained the issue to me, he crafted and electronically sent key letters while we were in consultation, thus beginning the negotiation immediately. The letters were incisive, demanding and, (quite surprisingly to me), civil, even given.... Aside from extreme relief, I was highly impressed. Having set this tone, Mr Fishman maintained this high level of professionalism, regardless of the obstructionism, delays, and antics of opposing counsel. He is also a fine person: caring, reliable, and un - greedy. He leaves his client with no doubt that he will fight to succeed on her behalf (also be a formidable foe, intimidating if necessary.....). I cannot recommend him strongly enough, and feel incredibly lucky to have found him. It goes without saying that my case was settled to my satisfaction.

Insightful, efficient, fair and an absolute pleasure to work with! Highly recommended!

Mr. Fishman was, at first, retained for his assistance and expertise in dealing with our new landlord's/mgmt. company's (which I cannot get into specifically due to legal reasons, but in one short word) antics. I was trying to "save" my home, a rent stabilized apt. in Manhattan, which I've been resid...ing in for 20 years, but when my living situation got so dire that it was no longer sane nor was it healthy to stay and fight anymore, Mr. Fishman helped me reached a settlement (on a contingency fee) with the landlord, and what Mr. Fishman got on my behalf was beyond my expectation and I was really happy with the result! He is first and foremost, very fair and conscientious regarding the usage of the retainer fee. Everything he did was NECESSARY, unlike stories I've heard about lawyers charging their clients an arm and a leg but get minimal (or rather, non-satisfactory) result. He is a man of few words, but those words are golden. Mr. Fishman is also very trustworthy and in my humble opinion, you cannot put a price on trustworthiness. What impressed me the most was he actually cared enough to still reply to my questions and emails on his vacation, his personal, leisure vacation.... All in all, if you are looking for a knowledgable, conscionable and decisive attorney who doesn't waste your money or time like water down the drain, then look no further, James Fishman is your MAN! Thank you very much, James, for helping me and my family and for everything that you've done and achieved. All lawyers should be like you and definitely can learn something from you!

Landlord Tenant Eviction

I hired James Fishman as he came highly recommended by another lawyer. I am grateful that I listened to the recommendation as James has been my lawyer now since 2008. My landlord is one of those that believes in harassing his tenants who live in rent stabilized apartments and his harassments includ...ed filing frivolous court papers which had not a single bearing of truth. My landlord thought that they could frighten me into leaving but I decided to fight and James fought alongside with me. James was honest, forthright, efficient, and was able to cut down the landlord’s lawyer in court so easily. My last court case which started in 2007 and ended in 2010. The reason why it even ended was a testament to James’ efficiency and most important of all his amazing attention to details. We won the case on a technicality that the landlord did not serve me papers in the appropriate time frame that the court deems necessary. They actually served me the papers 45 mins earlier than the required full 5 days. Only someone with James’ eagle eyes could have caught out something like this and so the entire case was dismissed because of 45 minutes. And so when the landlord decided it was time to harassment me again in 2014, there was never any doubt in my mind who I needed on my side of the corner to win yet another battle for me against my landlord. And this time, tired of the landlord’s relentless pursuit to get me out despite being a model tenant, I requested James to negotiate a buyout. And by September 2015, James was able to get a written agreement and we secured a successful buyout. I would not hesitate in the least bit to hire James anytime.
