Small business owner and tenant
James was an excellent attorney in an awkward dispute I had with my landlord in a pied a terre in Manhattan. He knew the law so well and handled the rather aggressive landlord adroitly and calmly and with such experience and depth of knowledge of NYC laws. My situation involved the landlord posting p...

Outstanding representation
We are a non profit organization that was sued in state court by a large national company preying on immigrants. Mr. Fishman agreed to represent us on a pro bono basis. He did an outstanding job. He thoroughly researched all of the pertinent legal issues. He had a precise grasp on the legal and proce...

Money down the drain
Mr fishman was recommended to me by another lawyer on avvo. After writing to him regarding my issue I was contacted by his legal aide who set up a phone consult. I paid $395 for 1 hr consult and Mr fishman told me he could not assist me. He did give me good information but it wasn't anything that I d...
It is unfortunate that this reviewer has chosen to remain anonymous. More importantly, the review confirms that I did precisely what I was asked to do. She contacted my office and requested a consult about being "blacklisted" from renting an apartment, an issue I have been deeply involved with for many years. I agreed to meet with her however she would only do a consult by telephone. I spent far more than the hour long consult with her and fully explained the legal aspects of her situation. Unfortunately, after hearing the entire story it became clear that there was not anything I could do for her (she had been sued for non payment of rent at least 8 times and had no defense to any of those claims) and clearly explained why that was. The reviewer is clearly unhappy that I could not assist her. I do not believe in sugar coating bad facts and will not agree to take on a client's case where i see no chance of a positive outcome. Had I agreed to try and assist this person she would have spent a lot more money only to have the same result. Fortunately, I have more than enough clients with legal matters that have legitimate claims and defenses who are deserving of my time and efforts.

HEAVEN SENT
I recently had the pleasure of utilizing the services of Mr. James Fishman and staff. My landlord, who has been trying to evict me for years, served papers on me right before my birthday and a vacation. I reached out to Mr. Fishman because I had a consultation with him months ago and he advised me ...
"I was fortunate enough to work with Jamie for many years....he is a fantastic and creative lawyer who fights hard for his clients and cares deeply for them. He's been a pioneer in both NYC landlord/tenant law and credit reporting law which is a rare feat! Any tenant or consumer would be fortunate to be represented by Jamie."
"Jamie is a first rate attorney who I turn to often for litigation insights. He is fearless and imaginative and gets results for his clients."
"I endorse this lawyer. I have known James Fishman through the National Association of Consumer Advocates for several years. He is a tough lawyer who works hard for his clients. We have worked together on credit reporting dispute matters. I strongly recommend him."
"I endorse this lawyer wholeheartedly. I have known attorney Fishman for a decade and he has always impressed me with his considerable knowledge of Landlord-Tenant and Credit Rights laws and his sincere concern for the best interests of his clients and passion for the law. He knows the law and is highly skilled at using it in the courtroom or out of it. If you have a problem with a debtor collector or credit report, or a question about landlord-tenant law, Jim is your answer. If his office is anywhere near you, I highly recommend him to you."
