Biography
For 35+ years, we have successfully helped 100,000s of motorists with their New York traffic and speeding tickets. Our mission is to make your legal problem as simple and easy as possible. Anywhere in New York State.
In addition to running a boutique law firm which fights traffic tickets and truck tickets throughout New York State, I am also President of the Association of Motor Vehicle Trial Attorneys, a not-for-profit organization, advocating on behalf of the community of New York Traffic Ticket lawyers.
In 1991, Matthew J. Weiss co-founded his private law practice eventually buying out his former partner in 2000 and focused the firm's emphasis on vehicle and traffic law. Through the years, Weiss & Associates, PC has successfully resolved a huge volume of traffic tickets and trucking tickets for its clients by way of dismissal or plea bargain. Mr. Weiss also handles real estate, commercial transactions and commercial litigation for select clients.
Matt graduated Hofstra Law School in 1984. He was Law Review and won the law school's prestigious Procedure Award. Upon graduation, he became one of the first Hofstra Law School graduates to work at the New York State Court of Appeals (New York State's highest court) working on various appellate matters. Mr. Weiss then worked for two years at Rivkin, Radler, Bayh, Hart & Kremer, a 200-plus attorney law firm, representing various clients, such as municipalities, insurance companies and large corporations, in various litigation matters. He also continued to do substantial appellate work.

I hired Weiss & Associates to fight a traffic violation ticket. I paid their full fees at the beginning itself. I never had any violation in my 20+ years of driving. After more than a year, i ended paying the full penalty and points at the court. Weiss & Associates did nothing for my case.

Replied last February 19, 2019Lisa, unfortunately we do not win every NYC traffic ticket (where they do NOT plea bargain but rather require all not guilty cases to go for a trail). In fact, we lose plenty of cases. However, we clearly explain this upfront. Further, we appeared numerous times on your cases delaying it more than a year. We do not charge extra to delay a case so long. In fact, we lose. However, we do so to maximize your chances of winning. Finally, it is very unfair to give us a 1-star rating when we were honest upfront, professionally and vigorously defended you and kept you regularly updated. We did not issue the ticket or find you guilty. We simply vigorously defended you to the best of our ability.

Replied last July 08, 2018I called Mr. Lewis to find out about his complaint but was given a very vague response. Ms. Ortiz has worked for me for over 10 years and we have NEVER received similar feedback about her. Without any specific facts to support it (coupled with Ms. Ortiz's surprised and complete denial), we cannot accept Mr. Lewis' complaint as anything but sour grapes that he/we lost his case. While we try our best for all our clients, we do not guarantee results. In NYC, they do not plea bargain meaning that we're hired to try and "beat the system". However, when we don't, we do not expect to be unfairly trashed by ungrateful clients especially after giving our best for a year and half.

Avoid this law firm. I spent over $600 for Matthew to represent me. Needless to say I will be finding a new representative next time as he lost my case that should’ve been easily taken care of. We stand by our services and are happy to clarify what was done on your behalf, how we did it and what still can be done. Our goal is to have 100% happy clients but we need you to contact us to achieve this goal. In regard to your review, we cannot specifically address it because you haven't given your name. Since we do not charge $600 for one case, we do not understand your calculation. Perhaps, you are including the fine money which the judge imposed. In any event, we do our very best for all our clients and NEVER guarantee a result. Apparently your case was issued in New York City, where they do not plea bargain or make deals. As we always explain this court's workings upfront, you must have known this when you hired us. This unique system makes it very hard to win because every NYC ticket must be fought at a hearing. There is no moving violation ticket that can "easily" can be taken care of.

Loses the case
Lost two tickets of mine in a row. Not sure the experience or expertise of the lawyer that represented my case. Quick to take $700.00 but no result to show for it. Save yourself the money and defend yourself rather than spend money for this firm.

Replied last May 24, 2014Of course, we are disappointed that we lost your cases. We are always disappointed when we lose. However, we explain very clearly to all our clients and prospective clients, that in NYC, there is no plea bargaining. The cases are decided on a "guilty or not guilty" basis only (i.e., all or nothing). Further, because this is a DMV court, with DMV judges deciding whether DMV gets your money, it is very hard to win. Anyone who hires us knows it's an uphill battle. We do our best under these circumstances.
