I grew up and spent most of my life in Hudson County, NJ. Like most Seniors do in NJ, upon retirement I Re-Located to South Florida on September 5th 2018 and West Palm Beach area became my New Home. Florida is an extremely Gun Friendly State and a high percentage of its people both young and old ex...ercise their 2nd Amendment Rights and carry concealed firearms once they apply for a Concealed Firearms License which requires an extensive background check. I applied for this license and was denied because of an old restraining order that was still active in NJ since 1993 (27 Years Ago) Apparently, NJ happens to be one of the few if not THE ONLY State in the Country to keep Restraining Orders Active for Life until an application by way of Motion is made to Vacate/Dissolve such order with the Superior Court. A Restraining Order when active, can hurt you in many other ways. If you apply for certain jobs it will come back to haunt you in a background check no matter what State your in. The Florida Authorities advised me to get this issue resolved with a NJ Attorney and to return back to them with a Certified Court Order showing the matter was Dismissed and Vacated so it never comes up in a Background check ever again. From Florida I started to research the Internet for a good Attorney well versed with Restraining Orders and found The Tormey Law Firm.
