I have been practicing law for over 30 years in both the private and non-profit sectors. My practice is concentrated in the areas of consumer rights, bankruptcy and commercial litigation. In 1995, my husband Bruce Levitt and I decided to found our own firm, Levitt & Slafkes, P.C. so that we could focus our practice on small businesses and on individuals from all walks of life in both bankruptcy related and litigation matters.
My core belief is that you succeed by treating others with fairness and respect. When you sit down with me to discuss your difficult financial situation, I will treat you as a real person, with real concerns and not just another case number.
Here’s some of my background. I received my undergraduate degree with honors, in psychology from Brooklyn College and my law degree with honors from Emory University Law School. In 2008 I earned my Masters of Social Work with honors from Rutgers University and am a licensed social worker. I believe that my social work training and experience allows me to bring a unique perspective to the practice of bankruptcy and foreclosure law.
I have a long standing commitment to volunteerism and the importance of contributing to my community. I served three terms as an elected member of the South Orange Maplewood Board of Education. I have also mentored youth and served on numerous nonprofit boards including Family Connections and the Columbia High School Scholarship Fund. Additionally, in 2005 I had the honor of serving on the Governor’s Task Force on Mental Health, Children’s Advisory Subcommittee. I currenty serve on the Board of Family Promise of Morris County.

We are now out of debt, keep our house, paying 2% mortgage and driving good cars. And we are happy- thanks these great lawyers!
But the things looked just the opposite way before we opened the door of Levitt & Slafkes. Nightmare of early morning/late night bank calls, deep in hole, close to lose the house. Tried everything, from debt management/consolidation (by the way the greatest mistake) to consultations with 4-5 bankrupt...
