About Robert

Learn Robert’s areas of practice.

Practice areas
  1. Lawsuits and disputes
When you have a dispute, it is best to try to resolve it before you have to go to court. We can help you negotiate a settlement; if that fails, we can represent you in mediation or arbitration, in administrative agencies, or before trial or appellate courts.

  2. Litigation
Since law school, I have concentrated my practice on all forms of dispute resolution. I have practiced in the state and federal trial and appellate courts in Massachusetts, New York, California, Colorado, New Hampshire, Rhode Isalnd and Michigan. I have reepresented clients in negotialtion and arbitration. I alsways try to see if there is a way to avoid litigation if that is the best avenue for my client; if not, I will use every available tool to advance his or her goals.

  3. Appeals
I have handled appeals in a variety of substantive areas in both the state and federal courts. These have included criminal appeals, divorce appeals, and appeals dealing with arcane civil issues such as the Massachusetts lead paint law and letters of credit.

  4. Ethics and professional responsibility
I have testified in legal malpractice matters on issues of whether or not the defendant lawyer violated his ethical or professional responsibilities. I testified, for instance, for the plaintiff in which she was awarded a $7,000,000.00 judgment.

  5. White collar crime
I have represented people charged with white collar crimes for over 40 years. These cases have included tax evasion and bankruptcy fraud. I will hire the best professionals (accountants, investigators) to give you the best chance of success.

  6. Arbitration
When required by contract, or if it is desirable to obtain a speedy resolution of a dispute, arbitration may be better than going to court. I have represented claimants and defendants in arbitrations involving a wide range of disputes.

  7. Criminal defense
I have represented clients in all sorts of criminal matters in both the state and federal courts. Thexe case have run the gamut from a very complicated RICO conspiracy trial in federal court to gun cases to drug cases to DUI cases.

  8. Family
I represent high net worth individuals where there are difficult issues such as evaluating the value of ownership interests in closely held business entities.

  9. Medical malpractice
I have represented clients whose doctors injured them through their negligence. Among the awards I have achieved were awards of 2.5 million dollars (Erb's Palsy), $850,000. (sepsis), and $450,000. (Graves Syndrome).

  10. Birth injury

  11. Federal crime

  12. Tax fraud and tax evasion

I always remember that my job is to get you the results you want.  I have concentrated in representing  clients in a wide variety of litigation matters for 40 years, concentrating on major, sophisticated and comples cases.  I always try to avoid litigation if that is possible.  It is nearly always better for my clients to resolve a dispute before it gets to court.  I will negotiate or mediate a dispute when that makes sense for you.  If not, I will consider arbitration or litigation.  In every case, I analyze the issues to determine the best strategy and tactics to get the best results possible.  Then I implement   that strategy.

I promise that if you retain me, I will listen to your description of the case and what you want to accomplish; I will analyze your case and the relevant law, and  will map out a plan of action; I will explain my plan  and why I think it will best advance your objectives; I will remember that cost is a relevant consideration; I will explain the risks and opportunities of each option, so that you can make an informed decision as to how you want to proceed; and I will keep you informed of the progress of the case and answer your inquiries. When appropriate, I will advise you that I am not the right lawyer for you. I will never lie to you or make guaranties that I can't keep.

Robert knows the law!
I contacted Robert about a matter that had both civil and criminal charges. Robert had legal answers to both components as he is well versed in the law. He also asked many thoughtful questions, showing his depth as a litigator. Clearly he can think many steps ahead which can save everyone a lot of time and money. Hire him is well advised!

If 10 is the best score, I would like to give Bob 12
I am the CEO of a small import-export company. We have retained Bob to help us resolve a number of legal disputes in multiple jurisdictions. Many of these cases had complex factual and legal issues such as anti-trust and liquidated damages. Bob represented us very effectively and efficiently, obtaining excellent results for us. One further point to note: many of the people in our company were born in China and other overseas countries and do not have a very good command of English. Bob was sensitive to the inter-cultural issues and navigated them extremely well in order to help us achieve our goals. If you are involved in a serious dispute, Bob should be the first person you call.

he is my first lawyer and reopen the gate for me to come back to the US
I got a traffic accident in Boston and I got a ticket which give me 3 criminal application. This may be not very terrible for the US citizen, but it is very terrible for me who is an International student in the US. Because this would affect my visa to the US. I was very nervous and did not know what to do. And then one of my friends introduce Mr Robert to me. When I met he first time, I thought I would be good. Because he is so nice, warm-hearted and professional. He help me a lot and teach me how to express myself in a correct way. And he accompany me to the court. And as a result, all of my three criminal applications were all dismissed. I think I guarded my right with the help of Mr Robert. This feeling was really so amazing. I will regard him as one of my best friend in my life. Thanks a lot.

Phenomenal Human and Lawyer
I called numerous lawyers and only got assistants. I gave Robert a call and he answered the phone immediately. He was completely honest with me and gave me more info in the consultation then I could find in hours of research online. After a 15 minute conversation, we decided I didn't need his services because my case, though serious enough, did not warrant a criminal defense lawyer. I cant thank you enough for your services. Its scary being in this situation and I'm glad I spoke to professional! Thank you Robert!

Very honest and common sense Lawyer
Thank you Robert for explaining my options clearly and precisely. I went to a few lawyers about my situation and none of them were as helpful as you.

Bob Stolzberg
Bob provided sound legal advice regarding a complicated contract and separation agreement. His guidance lead to a positive resolution without litigation. I am deeply indebted to Bob for his direction through the negotiating process which ultimately saved time and expense for all parties involved.

Saved us a lot of money
My company was involved in a contract dispute with a larger outfit, who was a longstanding customer.  I felt we were completely right, and intended to bring suit and not compromise, as advised by our then current attorney.  A friend who had used him before suggested we check with Bob Stolzberg for a second opinion.  Bob very quickly grasped the complexities of the case, and, as much as we didn’t want to hear it, pointed out factors that could make our potential suit costly to pursue and less likely to succeed than we had assumed.  Instead, he helped us negotiate for a settlement that gave us a high percentage of what we felt we were owed, while also defusing the anger on both sides such that we are talking again about future business.  I think that part of the reason we were able to settle on such favorable terms was that it was quickly apparent to the other side that Bob was on top of all the intricacies and nuances of the facts and law, and would have been a tough opponent in court.

Talented and very intelligent litigator
I worked with Robert on a case and he was always perceptive, dug deeper than other lawyers do and came up with an original and focused strategy. He is excellent and I cannot recommend him more highly.

He's Tops
When you need an attorney who “gets it” quickly and who will professionally represent you as the case may be, Bob Stolzberg is The Man. He has represented me a few times over the past ten years, and I am confident you will be more than satisfied the way he handles your interests.

smart, diligent, effective
Bob is the best! My first case with him was a complicated and tough. He he got a couple of counts thrown out right at the start. He then planned a strateghy that won before the jury. In the second case, he represented me in a divorce. I didn't want to give a penny, but he convinced me to settle. I wasn't happy at the time but I did it because I trusted him. Since then, seeing what has happened to some of my buddies, I know that it was the right advice. What makes it particularly impressive is that he was on an hourly fee, so by settling he was reducingmy legal fees by a huge amount. Use him!

Consult for possible representation
Contacted atty. Stolzberg in regards to representing a friend in a consumer law (MGL 93A) deceptive practices suit v.a local condo management company. Violation of contract etc. Mr Stolzberg gave us his opinion and the result we gathered from his second response was that he would be too expensive for the client even though the client was treated so badly that he could have have a good possiblity to demand treble damages. Mr. Stolzberg seemed uninterested and did not answer a key question we had that would have helped the client make a decision as to whether to hire Mr. Stolzberg. He seemed uninterested and we had to guess what the answer would have been on our own. Left hanging. Not the greatest.
