Maura Melcher

I've worked with Maura off and on for about a year now. She has offered pro bono legal advice, and assisted with contract reviews and negotiations while I have struggled to find work again. Maura, her firm and her staff are simply some of the kindest and most compassionate people in the business. I ...wish she could have assisted me a few years back when I lived in IL and needed representation (I may still be working if that had been the case). She handles some of the most delicate types of cases, often involving family trauma, and and manages simultaneously to empathize with clients often in distress, while assiduously pursuing any and all legal avenues to assist her clients. I'm fairly certain she looks at the practice of law as not only an opportunity to seek just and fair resolutions for her clients, but even more, an opportunity to provide help to folks struggling through complicated life changes.

Maura is a very skilled lawyer!  I observed Maura with: 1. Filing various motions and writing out information that was truly important for the judges to see. 2. Helping me file a restraining order and seeing it through 3. Arguing many motions 4. Filing emergency motions and arguing in ...them 5. Several trial days Maura navigated a favorable outcome for me in an extremely difficult divorce. My divorce was very complex for many reasons beyond our control. My ex-husband was very difficult to deal with. He hired many lawyers during this process, several were aggressive to the point that they yelled at us, put forward unreasonable motions based on lies, tried tricking court system, and all of this occurred during the challenging court system environment of the COVID-19 pandemic. My divorce ended up taking 7 years. When I originally approached Maura to help resolve my divorce, she helped facilitate a peaceful conversation with my ex-husband who was sending many offensive emails/texts to me at the time. I had a hard time drawing my boundaries and speaking up. Maura was very patient with me. She helped me with my personal growth in becoming a confident woman prioritizing kindness and speaking up for my own needs at the same time. As the divorce progressed, I observed Maura's deep skill, knowledge, kindness and patience. There were many issues to address, and at times, it seemed so overwhelming. Maura knew exactly which issues were truly important. She knew that resolving those important things would help solve other problems. She navigated the confusing court system with such knowledge and expertise. She deeply impressed me with how she handled herself with various lawyers that my ex-husband hired. She was professional, reasonable, honest and really protective of me at the same time.
