Poor outcome. Very sketchy.

Definitely won’t be going back to Benjamin Flam or the Gordon Law firm. Flam claimed that he was on a "first-names basis" with the opposite side attorney, so I hired him to negotiate a settlement for me. To my shock, after pocketing my fee and making a couple of calls to the other side, he started so...unding like a mouthpiece for the other side, repeating their nonsensical claims verbatim, without giving me a chance to dispute or clarify it. He then stopped replying to emails, voicemails, and messages left with the assistant until I involved his supervisor. Most damaging of all, he did not apprise me of my rights under various Federal and State statutes while the matter was within the statute of limitations. I found out later from other attorneys that at the time I hired Gordon Law, I had a strong bargaining position, and I could have filed complaints with federal agencies for myself and possibly other affected employees, but that the statute of limitations had since expired. It is not clear if the failure to pursue my rights were due to ignorance of case law on the part of this firm or for other reasons. Flam even failed to get the other side's position in writing, insisting that written letters were for “amateurs”. He communicated with me strictly by phone and email, despite my seven explicit requests to meet in person (unlike other attorneys who would not take the case without meeting me in-person first). In the end, I certainly did not get the settlement I paid for, did not receive competent advice, lost valuable time, had no written record of the other side's position, and was left hanging for much needed answers to build my case. Altogether, very sketchy.

I don’t know the identity of the reviewer, so it’s tough to tell what happened here. In any event, I’m sorry to hear you had a bad experience with our firm, as we strive for the utmost satisfaction in every one of our interactions. With that in mind, I’d be happy to connect with you directly to discuss your specific concerns and see what we can do to address any issues. And, of course, I hope you ultimately were able to resolve whatever work issue you called us to assist you with.

Civil suit

I had Ben as a lawyer, I believed everything he said. He told me everything he was going to do With no results. Being a combat veteran I felt he was going to fight for me, how wrong I was. He stopped returning my calls and I knew, he was blowing me off. My wife sent an email and he replied with "end... of contract" He basically made us feel like I had been an inconvience to him. The next day my case was just thrown in a box along with 2 other people's cases, how professional. It arrived at my house less than 24 hrs after he emailed us. To me it was all planned he didn't want to deal with my case. My trust in lawyers has been tainted.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
