Paul John Sweeney

Paul did the first part of my divorce. He did not prepare me at all for the first hearing we had together. This would have been useful since that is when we arrived at a settlement and when we could have negotiated more effectively. First, my husband had not filed taxes for a few years, I had inde...pendently. My ex asked that I let him file jointly...that would have been the time to say, "let's talk later," not yes. Paul didn't counsel me on this. I agreed and that took away any leverage in negotiations. My husband kept filing frivolous contempt orders and I had to respond, hence outrageous legal bills. Also, Paul's birthday had been the day before and his daughters had taken him and his girlfriend out the night before, I discovered at lunch which he needed right away because he had not had time for breakfast. While we were out at lunch, my ex decided to change his mind on a 60:40 settlement he had agreed to. His prep was done at the last minute, the weekend before we went to court, It was spotty, at best. After this performance I changed lawyers and had a very different experience with competency. Paul also did NOT give me bills. Instead he took money in various $15,000 and $12,000 amounts from the escrow in selling our major residence. I do not know how much he got in the end. I called and asked Susanne who told me they would send Billings, but they never did. I did not get a "caring," or even "interested" vibe.

Paul and Susanne not only saw me through my divorce process (that included children), but have been involved in various follow-up issues in probate court (2011-2016). First and foremost, the entire team (Paul, Susanne, and Lauren) is very professional, caring and extremely responsive. Divorce invol...ving children is always challenging, and is only "seamless" for people with means (which we were not due to life circumstances). What struck me about Paul's process was that he truly sought as much of a win-win scenario as possible - looking out for the interests of my ex-wife also, because of how it would impact the children. If you are looking for a cut-throat, take the ex for all they have mercenary - Paul's not your guy! I respect what Paul's team attempts to achieve for families during a very distressing time.
