Excellent communicator, responsive and personable. Mr. Makler relayed all of my options and possible outcomes of my case, informing me of best case scenarios and his experience in dealing with previous, similar cases. He made me feel comfortable and at ease, which was especially reassuring during this stressful experience. After succeeding in achieving the best case scenario in my case, a full dismissal, I would highly recommend Mr. Makler to any youth, adult, or professional seeking legal counsel. Pleasure to work with, A+!

Bill Makler is a great lawyer. I had gotten a DUI during Halloween this year in Downtown Santa Barbara. Unsure who I should hire as my legal representation, I was referred to Bill by one of my friends. He was very responsive. He kept me well informed and was extremely knowledgeable. During the consultation, he carefully listened to my story and he was already coming up with possible defenses even before I hired him. He answered all my calls and emails quickly and never kept me in the dark. He even laid it out for me what were all the possible outcomes and prepared me for it. My case ended up getting dismissed. Bill is also super fair about charging me as well. He refunded 75% of his retainer and only charged me for the time he spent on the case, which was a great deal (Something I don't think other lawyers would have done). He made sure I got the refund and the all the paperwork/ documents concerning the dismissal of my case. I would HIGHLY recommend him for DUI or any other case. I was super scared about this and Bill took care of it for me all the way. LOOK NO FURTHER and hire BILL.

I was referred to Bill by a friend who was arrested and charged with DUI. Upon reviewing my friend's case it was clear to him that the officer lacked probable cause to make a stop. Bill prevailed at the DMV hearing (which I understand is a rarity) and the case was ultimately thrown out. Since the B.A.C. was right at the legal limit, most other lawyers would have accepted a plea to a wet reckless -- but Bill held his ground that the search was illegal and won.
My DUI case was somewhat different, and Bill's no-nonsense, factual approach served me quite well. It's clear that he has earned the respect of the DA's office and local judges -- not because he is a pushover, but quite the opposite -- he aggressively pursues every angle and every argument within the bounds of the law and the facts. At the same time he does not lose sight of what a "win" means for his client.
In my case, based on his briefs, I'm confident he could have had blood evidence expunged based on an illegal search, but he counseled me that it would be a Pyrrhic victory and instead secured the best possible sentencing terms for my circumstance.
I know of other cases where he has secured results that no other lawyer could have achieved, at least without unacceptable risk, and I believe his success is based on the credibility he has built in the courtroom.

If your child runs into legal problems, Bill is the lawyer to call. I'm not happy to say I hired Bill on three seperate occasions while my son was a student. But the good news Bill was able to get the best possible outcome not once or twice, but all three times. (Minor in possession, open container, drunk in public, battery) I don't hesitate to recommend him 100%. Isla Vista is a crazy town and you need a lawyer like Bill!

If you reading this review, chances are, you or someone you care about is in big trouble and needs the best possible representation. This was my situation three months ago. I felt desperate and scared after I was arrested for DUI. I systematically interviewed all the top attorneys in town. Mr. Makler's amazing reviews are hard to miss. He provided me with a complimentary hour-long consultation, and just as it is written, he is responsive, professional, and intelligent. He listened carefully to me and paid close attention to my concerns. I am a nurse and I was mortified to find out that the DUI conviction I was facing could possibly ruin my career. I selected Bill Makler for his ability to negotiate, his good reputation with the district attorney, and because his trial skills are legendary. This would not be the attorney I would wish to oppose in court. He fee was not the cheapest, nor the most expensive, but very reasonable. Two things on which to never economize: your surgeon and your criminal defense attorney. You may live to regret either.
The entire process was handled by phone and email. I never saw Bill but his response to my emails were nearly instantaneous. He kept me informed at every stage and answered my questions thoroughly. Most importantly, he was able to get the misdemeanor DUI charge against me resolved as an exhibition of speed infraction after just a few court appearances and some skillful negotiation. My prayers were answered; I thank my Lord Jesus for his mercy.
I highly recommend Bill Makler!

When our Santa Barbara student landed in alcohol related legal trouble, we drove to Santa Barbara and personally interviewed several lawyers with excellent credentials. Mr. Makler was the clear choice due to his excellent depth of knowledge and expertise in this area. He guided us skillfully and tactfully through each step of this painful process to a favorable outcome. He responded promptly to countless emails and phone calls to answer our questions and address our concerns. We give him our highest recommendation.

Thank you for all your help and support before and during my son's trial in Santa Barbara recently.
I live in Scandinavia and it was good to feel that we were well informed and had a good communication despite great geographic distance.
We were very pleased with the outcome of the case and would highly recommend this law firm for anyone who may need their services.

Yes, Mr. Makler is a phenomenal DUI attorney as he is known for, but he is a fantastic general criminal-defense lawyer as well. Not only did he help me navigate the legal system for a 2nd DUI, but also another criminal indiscretion that required a lot of research into precedent and time preparing a good defense. Considering the complicated nature of the crime, Mr. Makler clearly conveyed to the Judge what exactly happened, and kept me out of jail. During my case, the Judge even complimented one of the written portions of a motion we brought towards the court, with the Judge even saying something along the lines of "I can only hope to have had the same legal prowess as Mr. Makler at his age..." I owe my life to Bill considering what I was facing, and would recommend to anyone to use him as their attorney.
