About me

After graduating from Hixson High School in Hamilton County, Tennessee, in 1989, Keith went on to study psychobiology as an Echols Scholar at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.  In 1992, Keith obtained a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction and returned to Tennessee to begin studying law at the University of Tennessee College of Law.  While there, Keith focused his studies on trial advocacy and contracts, actively served as a Knox County General Sessions Court mediator, worked in both the civil and criminal clinics and volunteered his time by helping local high school students with their mock trial programs.  In 1995, Keith obtained his Juris Doctorate and remained in Tennessee to begin the practice of law.

Keith’s volunteer work led him to Anderson County, Tennessee, where from 1995 to 2002, Keith practiced in both civil and criminal litigation throughout East Tennessee.  In 2002, Keith opened his own firm with offices in Anderson and Sevier Counties and served as that firm’s managing and lead litigation attorney. Keith’s practice included a wide range of matters including disputes involving landlords and tenants, real estate, consumer issues, debts and personal and work injuries.  From 2002 to April 2007, Keith’s practice expanded to include more areas of civil litigation including extensive construction litigation, boundary disputes, partition actions and a wide range of contract disputes.  In April 2007, Keith joined his wife at a Blount County firm to help found that firm’s Loudon County office.  Keith again expanded his practice of civil litigation to include cases involving more complicated business disputes, sinkhole issues, contested wills, conservatorships, guardianships and matters involving breaches of fiduciary duty and trust.  Keith joined Holbrook Peterson Smith PLLC in 2015 to provide the firm’s clients with his vast experience in litigating contested issues and providing contract drafting services.

Keith continues to practice in a wide range of both simple and complex civil litigation as well as contract review and drafting.  Keith’s clients and cases routinely place him before courts throughout the entire State of Tennessee and often in Anderson, Blount, Bradley, Campbell, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Knox, Loudon, McMinn, Monroe, Morgan, Roane, Scott, Sevier and Union Counties. Keith’s representative clients are individuals, businesses and families either located in Tennessee or those with interests in Tennessee.

In addition to being licensed to practice law in all Tennessee state courts, Keith is currently admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Tennessee, the U.S. Court of Appeals, 6th Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Keith currently enjoys a Preeminent AV® Rating for ethical standards and legal ability in Martindale-Hubbell’s rating system.  Keith also enjoys an overall Peer Rating of a 4.9/5.0 in the areas of litigation, personal injury and construction law as recorded by Martindale-Hubbell.  Keith also currently enjoys a 9.5/10 Superb rating in the Avvo rating system.

Keith maintains an active membership in the Anderson County, Blount County, Knoxville, Loudon County, Sevier County and Tennessee Bar Associations.  Keith served as the President Elect and then President of the Loudon County Bar Association.  Currently, Keith is a member of the Tennessee Association of Construction Counsel, a volunteer member and Vice-Chair of the Town of Farragut Board of Zoning Appeals, a Hearing Committee Panel Member for the Tennessee Supreme Court’s Board of Professional Responsibility, and a Member of the Board of Directors for Legal Aid of East Tennessee.
